Hi Friend,
Just in case you missed my email from earlier in the week, let me share this powerful tool with you again. I promise it will save you a lot of time and stress from wasted efforts and wondering what the heck you should try to do next with drones.
Thanks very much for going to my presentation on the big mistakes companies are making with their drone operations. Want to talk with someone about anything you saw in there? I have an offer coming up for you.
But first, I want to give you a very powerful and elegant tool that will help you define your business case for using drones. This comes from one of the books I mentioned in my presentation: Running Lean. The tool is a Lean Canvas. It is based on the "Business Model Canvas" from this book which you may have seen or heard about:
|
|
| The authors in that book developed a brilliant one-page business model template. It has become a favorite tool with many companies, investors, and business schools.
Then, Ash Maurya took it another step further by incorporating LEAN STARTUP principles. Hopefully you are familiar with that body of knowledge. But if not, the file I have attached here incorporates that knowledge for you.
Here is an image of the file. The LEAN CANVAS captures all of the essential ingredients that an innovative business operation needs to succeed. The small panels for each ingredient force you to hone in on the core issues or points of each element:
|
| | Remember that one of the biggest mistakes companies are making is that they start using drones without a clear and valid reason WHY.
This tool conquers that problem.
Remember also that another big mistake is starting a drone operation without the RIGHT PEOPLE included and engaged.
This tool ensures that you avoid that problem too.
The fourth big mistake I told you about was poor application and execution of business startup principles.
This tool comes straight out of the startup world. It is a tool that world-class innovators are using to make their innovative projects successful. Now you have it too.
As you look at this canvas, put yourself in the mind of a salesman or saleswoman who is trying to sell the CEO or owner the idea of starting an internal drone operation.
What problems exist today that only a drone could solve? Or solve safer? Cheaper? With greater quality? Faster?
Go through each panel on this canvas with the same approach. To make your drone program successful, you will need to think about it like a business. It has to make sense for your business -- and succeed within your unique world -- in order for it to succeed.
The next step is to make a clean copy of this canvas and fill it out. But I will admit to you - I think you are at a disadvantage if you haven't read Running Lean yet where this tool comes from. So if you have the time and energy, I highly recommend getting the book and reading it. If you don't mind using my Amazon affiliate link, click here. And thanks if you do. :-)
Here's an idea and proposal. How about we have a short conversation? Walking through the creation of a new drone operation in a company cannot happen over email. Let's not kid ourselves. I want to give you the best and more appropriate help for where you are in your journey and situation. I've seen many large-scale corporate innovation initiatives from start to finish. Many aviation programs too. I've also seen my fair share that crashed and burned...both figuratively and literally! I don't want that to happen to you.
Take a look at this Lean Canvas. Study it. Make a first run at filling it out for yourself. Then let's schedule a time to talk over the phone or skype. My contact info is below. I look forward to hearing from you.
