Dear Friend,
I hope this email finds you well. Things here are looking sketchy...
Here's the situation. This course on project management for drone operations might not happen. Here's why.
After creating and shipping many projects in my lifetime, I think I have learned a few things. Sometimes it took a long time, to be honest...
One of the toughest lessons is that, sometimes, creating and shipping something just to see what happens -- just for the heck of it -- is not the point.
The point is to make a difference with people. People who care about what you are doing. People who are waiting so badly for it and know they will benefit from it that they tell you so.
Ever had someone so eager to get a project from you that they begged you for it, Friend?
That's a great feeling. And I'm not feeling it yet, Friend. :-/
After listening to some people who I have a lot of respect and admiration for, because they have become very successful with online courses (plus other things), I have called off the August launch of my course.
It might not happen, ever. But I am still passionate and committed to make it happen. There is an important condition, however.
I've set a goal to have a minimum of 50 people asking for this course before I launch it. Actually, before I even create it.
And we aren't there yet. Not even close, to be honest.
But I do have you! And I'm truly grateful for that, Friend.
That's the good news. I want this course to happen for you. I hope you want it too. But I need your help.
I still need to know who I am creating this course for. What is your position in the company? Have you started researching drones yet? What industry do you work in?
If you could capture all of your questions about drones into one magic question, what would that be?
There's a quote from Einstein about spending more time to formulate the question than think about the answer...
So I'm still in that question-formulating stage, Friend. I have changed the planned launch date of the course to "Fall 2016." I still really want to make this happen before the end of the year. But I'm asking for your help to reply here and tell me something about your situation and goals.
That may not seem like any help towards that goal of 50 people, but it is. Because knowing more about you and your situation will help me find other people like you.
If you are afraid that I might end up helping one of your competitors, that's also a great reason for us to talk. Because then I can be sure to stay away from them.
There are many cities in the country (the USA). I would be happy if you become THE drone expert for [X] industry in your city. That would put you in a great career position too, wouldn't it?
I'll just focus on finding some other people in other cities. Or other industries. Eventually I'm sure I'll find 50 people who are excited about drones and want to bring them into their business.
But for now, my focus is still on getting to that number. I apologize if you are disappointed in the change in plans. Best thing you can do to fix that is to reply here and let me know what burning question or issue you are trying to solve now. Then while we focus on that at least we will be making progress together. Even if this course doesn't happen, which is looking questionable at this point.
Thanks for reading this email, Friend. Hope we will keep moving forward together! Let me know what that means for you please.
Best regards, Brett
P.S. I almost forgot to mention! Monday is a HUGE day for commercial drone operations in the United States. August 29th is when the new "Part 107" regulations for small drones take effect. The rules of the game will change, literally and figuratively. Just one example, the altitude restriction is irrelevant if you fly within 400 feet of a structure. Major benefit for inspection of communication towers and tall buildings! Tell me something about your particular situation and goals, and we can move on from there. There will be a frenzy of activity after Monday with people moving ahead with drones, so let's prevent you from falling behind your competitors.
