Subject: 4 keys to a successful enterprise drone program from the US Department of Interior's Head of Aviation

Happy weekend, Friend.

It's time for a reality check.

If you want to bring drones into a corporate or government environment, you may need a major adjustment in expectations for the amount of time and effort this is going to take.

And the type of people you will need on your team.

This weekend I listened to Episode #31 of the Commercial Drones Podcast (www.commercialdrones.fm).  Ian Smith is the host of this great podcast. His guest for this episode was Mark Bathrick, Head of Aviation for the US Department of Interior.  Mark has oversight and responsibility for over 1,200 aircraft!  Many of them are drones.

Mark thinks there are 4 key ingredients for an organization to build a successful drone program. He deserves to be listened to closely.

Friend, as soon as I heard this podcast I knew this was something I needed to share with you.

Please pay attention to everything else he says too.  For instance, if you listen closely you will notice that the time it took for the DOI to have their first operational flight after they started the program was...

4 years!

Yes. That seemed so surprising that I stopped the podcast and re-wound to hear that portion again.

Now, this program start was 10 years ago - in 2006.  We would all like to think that we can work faster and more efficiently today. But that is probably a big reality check for you.

You may have a longer road ahead of you than you thought Friend.  But the sooner you get started, the sooner you will make progress.

And the more you can learn from others who have built world-class enterprise drone programs, the smarter and more effective you will be.  Much better to learn from other peoples' experience and wisdom than trying to gain it all yourself.

I don't want to hold you back any longer than necessary, so here is the website for the Commercial Drones Podcast.  It doesn't have nice navigation to lead to individual podcast episodes so I'll give a couple links.  You want Episode #31. Look for it on the website or go to your preferred podcast playing service and add this to your listening schedule:
