Subject: Drones, airshows, and STEM - lots of photos from a Sacramento event

Hello Friend!

I hope your pursuits with drones and civil engineering (or whatever related interest in those topics you may have) are moving forward safely, legally, and productively.

Yesterday in Sacramento, California, the California Capital Airshow organization held its first ever DRONE ZONE event.  It was a family-friendly event to educate and inspire kids for many of the exciting career opportunities they have with drones. And it was a promotional event for the annual CALIFORNIA CAPITAL AIRSHOW that will next happen on September 21-23rd 2018 at Mather Airfield in Rancho Cordova, CA. A bit more about that later.

This Drone Zone event was held at one of the hangars at Mather Field. There were about 20 companies, organizations, or services represented to show and talk about their efforts with drones. There were probably 200-300 people that attended.
Drone Pilots Federation was one of the organizations there, which is an educational non-profit organization that I have a volunteer leadership position with (Vice-President). We advocate for the safe, responsible, and productive uses of drone technologies. Our President, Bruce Parks, is also the Drone Hangar Chief for the Drone Hangar experience that will be at the upcoming California Capital Airshow.  (Still more about that later).

You can spot Bruce in the black shirt along with lots of people and drones in this photo from the event:
You'll notice my book was there too. :-)  To be an effective innovator with commercial drones, you want to always be on the lookout for opportunities to meet good people, share your expertise, build relationships that can lead to more good things in the future.

It just so happened that a couple people from TEICHERT CONSTRUCTION were at the event to share their applications with drones.  TEICHERT got started in California soon after the gold rush - in 1887.  They are still going strong!

And it so happens that one of their UAS pilots at the event, Michael, had just purchased my book on Amazon last week.  Small world!  It was great to meet one of my readers in person and trade business cards.

Michael said he first purchased the ebook so he could start reading it ASAP.  Once he dug into it he knew he would have to share it with his coworkers.  So then he also ordered the paperback which is on the way.

Something for you to consider when you decide which version is best for you...

I also got to meet the team that operates the Yamaha RMAX agricultural UAS helicopter.  Here is Jared and Kaitlyn with one of their birds:
It was awesome to see one of these aircraft up close.  It is also great to see a woman playing a key role in a commercial UAS operation.  Caitlyn is the lead technician for this team. She assembles and maintains the aircraft, handles all the chemicals for spraying, and drives an ATV around the fields to do whatever it takes to operate the aircraft safely and productively.

Now let's talk about some future business and communication, Friend.

For the past couple of months, I have been sending an email out an (almost) weekly basis to give you and others updates on my book, SUCCESS WITH DRONES IN CIVIL ENGINEERING.

Now that we are in the post-publication sales, marketing, and call-response phase from the book; I probably won't be sending you an email every week.  But I would still love to stay in touch with you.  Good with you, Friend?  It would be great to hear back from you with a quick reply. Unless I hear otherwise, I will keep you on my email list for any future updates or questions.  Thanks again for your interest and dedication with safe, legal, and productive uses of commercial drones.

Finally, if you are in the northern California area (or want a great reason to travel here in late September), mark September 21-23rd on your calendar as a placeholder for the CALIFORNIA CAPITAL AIRSHOW.  This year is the 100th Anniversary of Mather Airfield.  It will also be the first time the airshow will have a dedicated drone / UAS section.

If you are doing something exciting with drones and would like 130,000+ people in the world's 5th largest economy to learn about it, ask me how to get included.

Stay tuned to the Drone Pilots Federation website to look for more details:
Thanks for reading and enjoying the photos from my recent outing to promote the successful growth of drones in our world.  If you still need to get a copy (or two) of my book, click my photo from the event yesterday and you'll get a digital jump over to Amazon.

Take care, and take charge.
