GOOD TO GREAT GRANT PROGRAM
FRI. JAN. 20, 3PM
Join the CT League of History Organizations as they offer a webinar on the Good to Great 2.0 grants next Friday, Jan. 20 at 3pm.  Register here.   Deadline for Letter of Intent: Feb. 3

These grants will provide up to $500,000 in funding for capital projects for nonprofit arts, cultural, or history organizations that connect art, history, and tourism to enhance visitors’ experience of an arts or cultural venue and/or historic site. Competitive applications will not only look beyond basic facilities repair, rehabilitation, or expansion but also towards new means of sharing and telling the stories of our state’s rich history and culture in engaging, meaningful, and relevant ways. Funding will be prioritized for projects that demonstrate a clear vision of how individual sites and organizations can effectively tie together local, regional, or statewide cultural assets in ways that demonstrate measurable movement from “good” to “great”.

Join Scott Wands and Lian Partridge from the CT Humanities granting program and Liz Shapiro, Director of Arts, Preservation & Museums at DECD for the State of Connecticut, to learn more about this funding opportunity. We’ll walk you through the letter of intent, application and guidelines, and provide ample time to answer all your questions.

A recording of this program will be available on the CLHO  YouTube channel afterwards for those who are unable to attend.

OUR LOCAL ARTS HERO
MARICARMEN GODOY
WED. JAN. 18, 2023, 6PM
INFINITY MUSIC HALL, HARTFORD
Register here to attend, free of charge, The Connecticut Arts Hero Awards on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 6 pm at Infinity Music Hall in Hartford. The event is free and open to the public. The Arts Hero Awards honor and celebrate Connecticut residents who are doing inspiring work in, for, or through the arts in Connecticut.

Congratulations to the Arts Hero for our region: MARICARMEN GODOY of Norwalk.

Maricarmen was nominated by CAFC readers, and selected by a CAFC regional panel: Elaine Braithwaite (Bridgeport Public Library), Frank Derico (Neighborhood Studios), and Megan Quinn (Fairfield Theatre Company).

Maricarmen is a journalist, artist manager and philanthropist. She belongs to the fifth generation of a family of musicians from Ecuador. Maricarmen began singing sacred music from an early age, and made a living as a singer while she finished her journalism degree from Universidad Central de Ecuador. She migrated to the United States in 1997 with her daughter, Angie, who is an award-winning violinist and cultural entrepreneur.

As a citizen artist and cultural promoter, Maricarmen saw a need to advocate for emerging artists who are pursuing their international careers. Her community work began at the Ecuadorian Civic Center in Danbury and she is a founding member for what is now the Ecuadorian Civic Committee of Stamford.

In 2021, Maricarmen founded En Vivo con Maricarmen, a non-profit organization that uplifts Latin-American artists. Throughout the pandemic, her philanthropic work directly supported musicians, sound engineers, and video editors in times when the stages were closed and artists were in crisis.

As a journalist, Maricarmen amplifies community arts and cultural events. She is an editor for La Voz Hispana de Connecticut, a Spanish newspaper based in New Haven, and the anchor of En Vivo con Maricarmen, a Spanish radio news show on 103.5FM La Voz Radio. Maricarmen is a contributor to the Fairfield County Catholic newspaper, where she writes articles in Spanish. She serves as a volunteer bilingual translator and artist liaison for INTEMPO in Stamford.
