Subject: Dad Has Feelings Too

Hi Friend,

Thought we could chat about this tricky topic today.

You see...

I think we often forget about the way dads feel since the general stereotypes have been “mums are the carers” and “dads are the providers.”

Now I know things have come a long way in terms of changing these old thought patterns... but I have to admit once upon a time I just thought it was normal that Brad worked long hours. I think there were times I even thought he liked it! That he maybe enjoyed being away from us...

Yet...

Over the years Brad has shared with me (and demonstrated) how disappointed he is when he can’t be at special events because he has to work and how at the end of a long day how he feels he hasn’t gotten to spend any time with all of us.

And what’s great about Brad is he really makes the effort to try to connect. Some ways he does this are:

  • Insisting we eat meals together if we are in the same space (so we can check in with each other)
  • Reorganising his schedule so he can either pick up or drop Corey off at school (this gives him a chance to have one-on-one time with Corey)
  • Having fun (this is Corey’s favourite - he makes silly jokes to keep the mood light)

So, take a moment to consider your kid’s dad. Even if they are your ex. Because this might just help you change your perception the next time you see each other.

Maybe even open the conversation if you are game...

I’ll leave you there this week. May you have a great one.

Warm regards,
