We're Talking About Tantrums! |
|
|
Isn’t it just mortifying when you are out in public or at someone else’s home and your “darling child” does something (throws a massive tantrum, back-chats, “dobs” you in, etc) that makes you feel like an absolute failure in front of everybody around?
Or maybe it’s even your partner who did the “faux pas” (this is usually me ☺️).
Either way, and whatever the situation, it leaves you feeling very embarrassed.
Now... Depending on your skill-level of dealing with these moments, you might take one of the following approaches with the “offender”:
|
|
Our unique combination of:
|
|
- Try to control them with shouting or threats
- Withdraw and begin stonewalling as a form of punishment
- Ridicule them in front of everyone, or
- Give in to the behaviour and try to smooth everything over
|
|
(By the way... I’ve done all of these myself... so I get it ☺️)
The thing is...
However you deal with it, you probably come away from the situation still feeling miserable.
And, if you want to get a different result (and feel better about yourself), it stands to reason you have to do something differently.
I know it sounds simple and that’s because it is.
However, I also know the question you are asking now is...
“Then what am I supposed to do differently?”
Great question!
Here are 3 ideas to get you started…
Idea # 1 – Pick up On Track Parenting - The Missing Manual That Should Have Come With Your Child” and revisit Chapter 4 – Behaviour Problems and Tools to Instantly Start Getting the Results You Want (especially The 4 Categories of Misbehaviour).
Idea #2 – If you want a more hands-on approach with some tailored solutions, give us a call or send us an email to organise an appointment with Brad. He really is a master, will listen objectively to your challenges, and (best of all) he’ll come up with a great solution specifically to suit you.
Idea #3 – The third thing I want to suggest is to give yourself some credit. Because just the fact that you are even reading my letters (and hopefully taking action with the information) shows how much you care about being a great parent and role model in your family. And if you’re not very good at self-praise, I’ll do it for you. Congratulations! You are a great MUM!
That’s all for now. May you have an On Track Week.
Warm regards,
Monique Everton Mum, Wife and Registered Nurse On Track Parenting
P.S. Just thought I’d let you know that with the return to the toddler stage with Zane, we are getting a few little tantrums already 😅
Nothing serious yet, but we do already use strategies from Chapter 4... so be sure to check it out today (or schedule it into your diary for this week).
