March 2016 Issue

Hi! :)

The March Holiday workshops for Primary 4, 5 and 6 students are coming soon! This is the last week to enrol your child in our P4/P5 High Ability Boot Camp or the P6 Intensive Essay Writing Workshop.  The P4 and P5 High Ability Boot Camp is designed to empower your child’s understanding and appreciation of the language and the P6 Intensive Essay Writing Workshop aims to develop your child’s personal voice in essay writing.

We are pleased to announce that we have a FREE 12 week PSLE English Boot Camp! In the 12-week Boot Camp, students will benefit from Videos and Practice Papers on alternating weeks. The Videos teach vital grammar rules and commonly mistaken word pairs while the Practice Papers pertain to the key PSLE English Paper 2 components.

To parents of our current students, do look out for an email from our management in your inbox about our new Terms and Conditions.

Tips for Narrative Writers
2 of 10

A well-known way to make your writing stand out to examiners is the 'show-not-tell' method. Instead of merely talking your reader through what happens in a scene, describe using any of your five senses.

For example, if I wanted to say: "The missile shifted the truck in the desert and set it on fire.", I would use a more descriptive method to show my readers what I am picturing as I write. Thus, it would read something like, "The force of the missile slammed the truck twenty feet back into the sand and lifted it up twenty feet again in a fierce fireball of smoking red and black. Searing heat washed over it in a forty feet radius mushroom cloud that cracked a hole in the dust storm overhead.
Earth Hour this year falls on 19 March at 8.30pm. Will you participate?

Earth Hour was created with the idea of environmental protection in mind. It was started in Sydney, Australia in 2007 and since then has grown to involve more than 172 cities worldwide.

Watch the video for Earth Hour 2016 and check out what other fun activities you can do during Earth Hour this year!

  1. Would you participate in Earth Hour?
  2. What do you think some unintended consequences of Earth Hour might be?
  3. Do you think Earth Hour would be more effective if held monthly instead of yearly? Or would having Earth Hour too often turn it into an annoying campaign?
  4. If you had to think of an alternative to Earth Hour, what would it be?
We hope you had a great Lunar New Year celebration in February! We wish you all the best in the month ahead :)

Till next time,
