Tips for Narrative Writers

Now that you have been well-equipped with various tips over the past months, it is time to put them in action! Choose from the following questions and write a short composition of at least 150 words.

1. You are an astronaut on the first rocket to Mars. You are 10 minutes away from touching down on Mars when you hear some strange rattling noises from the engine room...

2. You have always had straight black hair, but one morning, you wake up with bright green curly hair. Describe what happens next.

3. You are a captain of a pirate ship, and you have just spotted an island in your telescope. Describe what happens next.

4. You are out exercising your dog, when suddenly, it starts straining at the leash and dragging you towards a forested part of the park trail. It looks dark and forbidding, and the whole place is empty, save for your dog and you...

5. You are a cat who has just been adopted. Describe a day at your new home.

Christmas  is (almost) here! It is the season of giving, with friends and families getting together and having a hearty meal, usually followed by a gift exchange session. Traditionally, as Christmas takes place in December, many countries around the world celebrate Christmas in winter, with related cold weather activities like ice skating and snowman making. Yet, global warming is changing things.

Last year, New York was a whopping 21 celsius in winter - a massive jump from an average of 0-4 celcius in December each year. This meant that many activities had to be changed without the snow or cold. People were seen playing volleyball shirtless, and some people refused to go ice skating on naturally frozen ponds as the ice layer was simply too thin and dangerous.

Read more about it here.
1. What are some ways global warming has impacted you?
2. What are some ways you can save the environment and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions?
3. Globalisation is the largest cause of global warming. Discuss.
