Exam Tips from our Experts:
A Review on Composition and Oral Component
How do students prepare for essay writing examinations? Many do the following: they pore through numerous model essays, memorise vocabulary words and popular phrases, and try to force-fit these into their plot.

As a result, the final product may come off as awkward, or worse, cliched, like the following introduction:
"Ring!" the bell resounded for the end of school. John was over the moon to be punctual for school as he raced out of the school gates under the magnolia clouds.

Students should write their conclusions in a more natural or meaningful way.
For example, instead of saying "Receiving the bicycle was one of my best birthday present!”, students can write "I learnt the importance of cycling safely and being considerate to other road users."

In the last semestral assessment, our experts highlighted various pitfalls and solutions during oral and essay writing.

The Insidious Effects of Smartphones
The whole world tuned in with anticipation as Apple unveiled its latest smartphone to mark the 10th anniversary of its iconic product. Despite its exorbitant price tag, one can be sure the iPhone X will sell like hot cakes. The world's obsession with smartphones has seen shareholders of Apple and Samsung reaping dividends; and leaving once key-players like Nokia in the dust.

The smartphone is more than just a portable computer. It can make e-payment, provide street directions on-the-go, is an entertainment portal...

However, in its wake, smartphones have opened a can of worms. Coupled with its close cousin, the social media, wired socienes have been hit by a slew of cases involving smartphone addiction. Impressionable teens are the hardest hit. Research has shown that prolonged and extended use of smartphones can result in depression, insomnia, indolence, as well as delayed social maturity.

It is ironic that teenagers these days are more connected, thanks to their smartphones but end up more alienated and lonely. How can parents drive a change to avert this mental-health crisis?
