Subject: Baker Hughes CIO Jen Hartsock on Balancing Speed and Perfection

The digital technology exec shares what it takes to attract, develop and retain awesome talent

When I spoke with Baker Hughes CIO Jen Hartsock for the CIO Whisperers podcast, she shared some of the game-changing innovations her team has been working on to advance the Fortune 140 energy company’s ambitious energy transition goals.

After the show, we spent some more time talking about the importance of vulnerability in leadership and what it takes to lead, develop, and galvanize a technology team that’s forging new territory every day. Head over to my CIO Whisperers column for those insights and more from Jen’s digital leadership playbook.

Office Shock: Reimagining “Office Work”

Futurist Bob Johansen joined me for the Thought Leadership Moment segment on two recent episodes of the podcast. According to Bob’s research, the old-fashioned office is dead. Instead, he talks about “officing” as a verb and a way to foster social interaction and networking with a purpose.

When it comes to the return to the office, most leaders are asking the “where and when” question. But Bob says this is actually the sixth (of seven) questions senior leaders should be asking today. Listen to the podcast to learn about the seven questions, ten leadership skills, five literacies, and one mindset needed for the future.

My next CIO Whisperers column will feature even more insights from Bob on how to restore presence in increasingly distributed teams and what new best practices we can anticipate in the coming years.
