Happy New Year Nurses! Welcome to our first newsletter of 2017. We have a new look, lots of announcements and new business heading your way. This is such a great time to be a nurse with so many options for each of us to express our potential. You don’t have to allow your creativity to be stifled or your work situations frustrate your desire to expand your role in healthcare. Part-time or full-time, entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship are excellent paths to ensure that 2017 is your best year ever!
Here are just a few of the trends in the healthcare industry today. There’s opportunity and growth in Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) .With all the EMRs, hospitals and tech companies are looking for nurses that can analyze, report on and translate medical information for the healthcare consumer. Legislation has resulted in the ways hospital’s get reimbursed; so hospitals are reconfiguring their facilities to provide more non-acute care. This puts pressure on nursing execs to develop new and more transitional care roles for nurses. And, each year, for the next 14 years, over 10,000 baby boomers will turn 65. By 2030, when all members of the Baby Boom generation have reached that age, it will comprise over 18% of the population! There are not enough facilities to care for this population and this creates a big demand for innovation in senior care and related services. There are many more trends that have an impact on the nursing profession and yes; the ranks of nurse entrepreneurs are growing. |

People have to be able to find you, learn about your business and the products and services you have to offer. For nurses that have a website, you will benefit from backlinks to your site, which definitely helps your SEO. This benefit alone is worth more than double the cost of your membership. Just fill out the Web Presence Application form and within 3-5 business days, your webpage will be up!

I seem to be fond of the number 11 in the articles of interest below. Each of these articles are valuable to read for the start of the New Year. I promise, each article is short and the messages are powerful. People that know me well know that I love cooking and all things related to cooking. So I am fond of our last article’s parallels to business and the one most essential ingredient necessary for entrepreneurial success. What business plans are you cooking up this year?

I have shared many times in presentations that the market never lies and we need to pay attention to want the market is telling us. I had the market hit me with a truth I didn’t realize. There are some nurses that don’t right click and download pictures that are in this newsletter. I realized this when I received some email replies to past newsletters asking me if I knew that dates for our 2017 conference. There is a conference ad with the dates at the bottom of the newsletter…lesson learned. Pictures are great for FB, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest but for a newsletter; content is king!

What's the key to entrepreneurial success? The answer depends on whom you ask. Some will say you need a great idea. Others will say financing is most critical. Others still will tout the benefits of building and working with a strong team. They're all right. And, yet, the one thing almost everyone agrees successful business owners must have is passion.
Take it from Sarabeth Levine. In the late 1970s, Levine was an insurance salesperson who wasn't particularly fond of or interested in the work. It paid the bills and put food on the table.
