Subject: #NNBA2019 Conference Highlights ~ NNBA Leads the Way Empowering Nurses through Entrepreneurship

President's Corner
October 1, 2019
Dear Nurses,

In the generation that has passed, since the National Nurses in Business Association was founded, the ranks of nurse entrepreneurs has increased substantially. The NNBA is the forerunner of the nurse entrepreneur movement, and that is a result of the active participation and contributions of its richly resourced membership. We are nurses, business leaders, mentors, and exemplars; an organization of nurses helping nurses succeed in business. This was exemplified this past weekend at the NNBA Nurse Entrepreneurship & Career Alternatives Conference in Las Vegas!

Strategies, practical advice, how-tos, blueprints (hacks), examples, leadership, coaching, mentorship and connections, made in networking sessions were evidenced throughout the conference. The NNBA conference had it all! Hundreds of nurses from places all around the United States, South Africa, Canada, and Mexico! The content of this year’s conference provided massive value and many sessions were sold out. Our orientation session for first time conference attendees was so popular, there was standing room only!

Renee Thompson was our masterful emcee in addition to being a speaker in a breakout session titled, Turn Your 60- Minute Presentation Into a 6 Figure Business. When Renee asked the audience who would be back next year, over three fourths of the nurses stood up to make it clear they would not miss NNBA 2020’s conference. From Dr. Scharmaine Lawson’s motivational, authentic, and totally inspiring keynote address, to Akeem Watson winning the Grand Prize at the end of our program, the excitement was palpable.
Speaking of winners, all the nurses that entered our 5th NNBA Shark Tank Competition did a wonderful job of pitching the judges. Rhonda Adams pitched WatchGuard, Terra Goodrich pitched Transitional Cardiac Care, LLC, Heather Wilson pitched Everyday Divinity, LLC and Susan Davis pitched CodePRep. The judges were Donna Cardillo, Louise Jakubik, and Scharmaine Lawson. They said it was extremely difficult to pick a winner because, every nurse was so good. In fact, when the scoring was calculated, they were within tenths of each other.
Our 2019 NNBA Shark Tank Winner was Terra Goodrich. After all the pictures are in, I will write a separate article on the terrific competition and innovative nurses in this year’s program.

Leading the National Nurses in Business Association is an honor. I know firsthand what nurses are experiencing at the different junctures in their nursing journey. We provide the information and business education to empower nurses at the different stages of their careers. To achieve this level of excellence, it is a joint effort by the staff at the NNBA and the input from our Advisory Board. Donna Cardillo, Louise Jakubik, Renee Thompson, Keith Carlson, Stella Nsong, and Lou Podlesni. They are tremendous resources to the NNBA

These were some of the comments nurses made at the conference.
