| Over the past 2 decades in business as a serial entrepreneur, and as the President of the National Nurses in Business Association, there are several mistakes I have observed and seen repeated. I have firsthand experience in making some of these same mistakes, so here’s how nurses can be better prepared to in starting their business.
1. Putting the cart before the horse - is an idiom for doing things in the wrong order, as in spending money before knowing that money will be available. Complete your product first. Examples are going all in on social media events, investing in Facebook, LinkedIn or TikTok before your product is ready. Stop purchasing cameras, and microphones, being consumed into websites, (guilty here), social platforms, and every distraction possible before you have a finished product. To create an effective marketing strategy and plan, put first things first, by completing the product, offering or program. Many times the completed offering reveals what platforms are best suited, and you won’t waste time, energy and money on ineffective marketing efforts. |

So, you know need a logo. But, where can you get started? If you do not have a background in design, it can seem almost impossible to know where to begin. Fortunately, you already have everything you need to get started right at your fingertips!
Look At Competitors
Chances are that many others in your niche already have logos. Take a look at the logos that others in your area have already created. Study them closely. Come up with a list of 5 logos that you like and 5 logos that you dislike. Figure out what is about them that either draws you in or repels you.
Do you find certain colors appealing? Or, do you really hate certain fonts? Do the logos that you like tend to be more minimal and clean, or elaborate and loud?

| | Hospitals across the nation are facing workforce challenges, and a nurse staffing shortage poses one of the biggest threats to care delivery.
More than 100,000 nurses exited the U.S. workforce from 2020 to 2021 due to a perfect storm of issues ranging from burnout and job dissatisfaction to competing family obligations and COVID-19-related illness. An aging nurse workforce nearing retirement and student capacity limits in nurse education programs are putting additional pressure on nurse staffing.
The American Nurses Association projects that the nursing shortage could reach up to 1.13 million additional nurses needed by 2028.
This has produced a domino effect of issues for health systems to address. High costs associated with travel nurses and staff recruitment have been a significant financial strain. Retained staff members often face increased workloads and less favorable nurse-to-patient ratios. Workforce deficits in additional lower-level roles often add tasks to nurses’ plates as well. |
