Presidents Corner                        April 1, 2016

As 2016 continues to roll out, there continues to be unprecedented opportunities for entrepreneurial nurses! In the next two weeks, registration will open for NNBA’s Conference, October 14 - 16, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year’s theme is ‘Advancing Nurses Through Entrepreneurship’. Plan to be there and join business-minded nurses from all over the country!

Congratulations to NNBA member Nancy Joyner MS, APRN-CNS, ACHPN for making April’s cover of Journal of Hospice & Palliative Nursing.  Nancy is an advanced practice nurse that has provided 35 years of nursing education and experience to healthcare professionals, patient and their families.

This issue we are publishing our latest members in our Member’s Spotlight; please join me in welcoming them to our National Nurses in Business Association's community.
Enjoy reading the wonderful articles below that cover marketing, success formulas and 10 books that will change your life. My tip this issue is for nurses with websites. I have noticed an interesting change in the past few months. Here is a snapshot of the past week of how www.NNBANow.com was viewed:

1. desktop (50.04%)
2. mobile (41.20%)
3. tablet (8.76%)

Almost half of the visitors came to our site from a mobile device. Make sure to keep this in mind so your site is configured to reflect appropriately on mobile devices.
Unconventionally yours,

Michelle

10 Books That Will Change How You Live Your Life

When Robert Herjavec wanted to start his own company, people discouraged him. They said he couldn’t do it. He had zero experience, he didn’t have a business degree and he knew nothing about running a business.

The headstrong Shark Tank star investor steamrolled ahead anyway. In 1990, he launched his first company, BRAK Systems, which he later sold to AT&T.

“I only knew that I loved what I do and how to work hard,” Herjavec told Entrepreneur. Today, Herjavec Group, his Toronto-based Internet security firm, has grown from three workers in 2003 to 220 employees strong, and it’s on pace to bank $150 million in revenue this year, according to the company.

Jack Canfield, author of Chicken Soup for the Soul, often tells audiences the story of how his book came to be. He and co-author Mark Hansen were motivational speakers when they came up with the idea for an inspirational book. It would tell real stories about real people, many of them from their audiences.

Canfield says he wrote every night from 10 pm until about 1 am for about a year to get the book finished. Then, he came up with a title that, in his own words, “gave me goosebumps.” He was certain it would be a huge hit immediately. After rejection from 144 publishers in a little over a year, they finally found a small publisher in Florida. The empire that was built from that one little book has been stunning.

The essence of modern-day grownuppery is a good self improvement project.

Whether the focus is getting out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off, getting a creative project off the ground, kicking procrastination forever, or figuring out — hallelujah! — what to do for a career, we’re all works in progress.
But finding the path that’ll get us there is a torturous, tender, thriller of a challenge. Wouldn’t it be lovely if the endeavor came with a user manual?

Finally, the good news: it does. Many user manuals, that is.

If you’re looking to turn over a new leaf and change your life for the better, we’ve got plenty of leaves you should be turning.
