Welcome Back from the Executive Director
For many of us, summer is a time of relaxation, reflection, and preparation. It is a time for planning, whether that is how to change a chapter culture, recruit more members, or better coach student leaders to be their best. As the school year commences, now is the time to take all that renewed energy and direction and put it into action. This is the case for the Northeast Greek Leadership Association as well.

This summer the board of directors reviewed and rejuvenated the strategic plan for the Association. We evaluated trends affecting higher education in the Northeast, considered the ways our Association can better serve students and professionals in the region, and continued to explore ways to both expand and strengthen organization operations. NGLA also streamlined many internal processes that will enable us to provide a higher level of service.

None of what we do would be possible without the tremendous support from our volunteers. Before we dive into planning the 2019 Annual Conference, I would like to take a moment to recognize our volunteer team. We could not continue to grow and advance the NGLA mission without the tireless dedication of many. Thank you for your time and talent to advance the NGLA mission!

As we head into the start of the academic year, please be sure to keep the Northeast Greek Leadership Association in your thoughts. If you attended any of our past leadership events, how can you use what you learned to make an impact on your campus? What are ways the Association can help you achieve your goals? Whether it’s a professional speaker you met at the conference whose words inspired you or an action plan you developed, it’s important to take that learning and turn it into results. Most importantly, let us know how can we even better serve you.
I’d love to hear from you—email me anytime at exec@ngla.org.

Best wishes for the start of another year of values driven excellence.

Fraternally,

Emily Perlow

#IAmASororityWoman and #myfraternity Campaigns
NGLA is excited to support the National Panhellenic Conference and North-American Interfraternity Conference campaigns.

In August, show your Panhellenic pride by sharing your sorority story on your social media accounts and tagging posts with #IAmASororityWoman. On September 12, join thousands of fraternity men to share your story of brotherhood and show the world the positive impact of fraternities using the hashtag #myfraternity.
Congratulations to our first Innovation Grant recipient, Kean University!
NGLA is proud to announce our first Innovation Grant recipient, Kean University! The Greek Senate will host a mental health awareness program this fall. World Mental Health Awareness day is October 10, 2018. The Kean Greek Senate program addresses how tragic ignoring signs of mental illness may be to individuals we love and interact with on a daily basis and how to intervene.

Does your campus have a creative approach to addressing or solving a problem? Apply for a NGLA Innovation Grant!

"GO GREEK!" Is Not a Marketing Strategy
Learn four principles from Matthew Mattson to strengthen your marketing plan.

The story most people know about fraternity/sorority life is not the story most members of fraternities and sororities want to be told about them. Fraternities and sororities are beautiful things, but the narrative being shared about our groups is too often hideous.

It’s time to take control of our fraternal story again. It’s time for a new approach to marketing our organizations.
