It is
with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Josette George Kaufman on
March 7, 2013. Josette joined the Board of Directors in 2002 and served as
treasurer from 2007-2009 and Assistant Executive Director since 2009. During
her time on the board Josette developed the NGLA annual conference vendor and
sponsors program, guided the advancement of a major strategic plan, and used
her extensive financial knowledge to keep the Association fiscally healthy.
In
addition to her work with NGLA, Josette had been employed as the Executive
Director of the Arthur R. Marshall Foundation for The Everglades since 2005, served
in a variety of leadership roles for Phi Sigma Sigma Fraternity, including
Grand Archon and most recently as National Panhellenic Conference Delegate, and
volunteered for the North American Interfraternal Foundation, Lake Worth Tree
Board, League of Women Voters, and Junior League. Josette attended the
University of Florida in Gainesville.
Josette’s
sweet, approachable, and witty disposition endeared her to everyone she met. Her
optimism and helping nature brought a special spirit to every NGLA board
meeting and conference. She mentored countless students and professionals alike
and she will be dearly missed. She is survived by her husband Stephen Kaufman,
her mother Nancy Marshall and her stepfather John Marshall.
Funeral
services for Josette George Kaufman will be held at Memorial Presbyterian
Church on Sunday, March 10, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating
to one of Josette’s favorite charities: Sacred Heart School in Lake Worth; the
Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation; or the Arthur R. Marshall Foundation for the
Everglades.
