Rooms Added to Conference Hotel Block
Due to overwhelming demand, the NGLA Board has added additional hotel rooms to the room block at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown. These rooms will go quick, and the block will expire on February 20.

The NGLA hotel rate is $150/night for all occupancies (single, double, triple, quad).  Please use the NGLA reservation link to guarantee the NGLA room block rate.

Take the Case
The Order of Omega Case Study Competition at the NGLA Annual Conference will take place on Saturday, March 1. The purpose of the competition is to provide an educational learning experience for undergraduate members as well as fraternity/sorority professionals or graduate students.

The competition will consist of teams compose of one fraternity/sorority professional or graduate student, and one undergraduate student, review a fraternity and sorority life centered case, and presenting their recommendations to a panel of three judges during a 15 minute presentation. The top three teams will each receive cash prizes of $250 for first place, $150 for second place, and $100 for third place.

Registration for the competition will open at the annual conference registration desk prior to 9:00am on Friday, February 28. Questions on the competition can be directed to Wes Schaub via email at Wesley.w.schaub@dartmouth.edu.
Going, Going...
What's the secret gem of the annual conference? The silent auction! It is not only a way to win fabulous prizes, but it’s also a way to raise money to support conference scholarships for future attendees. Everyone is encouraged to bring an item or basket to donate to the silent auction, as well as some extra cash onsite to bid on the many items that we will have up for auction.

Helpful Guidelines for Giving:
  • Include items that apply to a large number of attendees, including the hot trends of the season.
  • Remember that both collegians and alumni/ae will be bidding, so try to include items with varying price ranges.
  • Attendees will be traveling from all over, so try not to limit goods to one specific location.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask your school or inter/national organization for items to donate.
Not able to attend or not sure you’ll have room to transport a donation? No problem! Pre-conference donations can be accepted by Rebecca Jamrozik Mickler:

NGLA Advanced Leadership Summit
Student leaders are often provided with the tools and inspiration to lead change within their chapter or community, but left pondering how to actually make the change happen and sustain it.

The NGLA Advanced Leadership Summit is designed to provide students attending the annual conference with a framework for not only recognizing change is necessary, but also how to make it happen. Led by Kim Novak, CEO of Novak Talks, Allison Foster, Alternate NPC Delegate of Alpha Chi Omega, and Will Foran, Vice President of University Relations for the NIC, this Summit will provide an opportunity for student leaders who have taken part in NGLA, or other significant leadership educational programs to drill deeper into meeting the challenges of leading.

So often we focus on what “doing the right thing” is in our leadership programming that we overlook the most essential skill sets; after leaders figure out their personal direction, how do they inspire others to understand the need for change in their community or chapter? Can leaders learn skills to feel empowered to talk deliberately, honestly, and openly with their peers, and to put into practice a process of change based on the factors of relating, repeating, and reframing?

Note: The Summit occurs Friday, February 28 during the afternoon of the NGLA Conference.

BRAG BOARD

Values In Action
University of New Hampshire student and Phi Mu Delta brother Joseph Sweeney's commitments to his fraternity's core values of service, brotherhood, and democracy isn't just an empty promise. In his spare time, he somehow finds time to represent the residents of Rockingham, New Hampshire in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, regularly trekking across the Granite State from the UNH Durham campus to the New Hampshire State House in Concord to fulfill his obligations of office. To learn more about Joseph's story, read the Union Leader article about this remarkable fraternity man.
Got Values?
National Ritual Celebration Week, organized by Phi Mu Fraternity, is fast approaching on the calendar. The festivities kickoff on March 2 and extend until March 8.

Volunteer of the Month: Tiffany Neal
Congratulations to Tiffany Neal, our February 2014 Volunteer of the Month! Selected by an independent committee (for full disclosure, the NGLA Newsletter Editor), this choice was a no-brainer as Tiffany exemplifies the work ethic of a model volunteer as the NGLA Coordinator of Volunteers.

Wendi Kinney, NGLA Executive Director notes, "Tiffany has not only created for NGLA an effective volunteer management process, but time and again she goes above and beyond to connect with our volunteers and ensure they are having a positive experience. She sends our volunteers notes of encouragement, congratulations and even welcomes them back from maternity leave. Tiffany adds a personal touch to work that is often done in impersonal ways such as conference call and email. I appreciate how Tiffany contributes to the sense of community that makes NGLA so special."

Do you know anyone who goes above and beyond to support NGLA as a volunteer? Please nominate that person for the NGLA Volunteer of the Month. Nominations will be accepted by the 20th of each month by emailing volunteer@ngla.org, and winners will be showcased in the next issue of the NGLA Newsletter. Showcased volunteers will also receive a special surprise to thank them for their contributions. Who can you nominate for the next NGLA Volunteer of the Month?
