Some of you may know know I have three kids: a college graduate, a college junior, and a high school junior.

So besides being on top of all the college news to keep all of you informed, I'm doing it for my own family interests as well.

As I think back on each of my children's admissions journeys, I'm not sure if we've had bad luck or it's just that the process is always changing.
The year my oldest applied, the Common App redesigned their platform. Glitches galore, students losing essays, applications not submitting, colleges extending deadlines - what a mess.
With my middle one, it was a little easier, but it was the year the SAT redesigned their test dramatically, moving from a 2400 scale back to 1600 and changing their style to be more like the ACT. And Early Decision II become more popular with many colleges.
I thought by the third child the process would be smooth sailing. But then came coronavirus.

Personally, I welcome these changes. Coronavirus didn't cause the issues we're seeing in admissions and higher ed, it just exposed them.

We're all in uncharted territory figuring out :
  • which colleges will be financially stable,
  • what does test-optional really mean,
  • how will merit scholarships be impacted,
  • will seniors taking gap years affect next year's competitiveness,
  • what type of incentives are colleges now allowed to offer with early decision,
  • and more!
Since March, I've been holding weekly Zoom coffee clatches, with Russ Vitale, our College Concierge, to discuss all these issues along with any concerns parents have.

We've gotten lovely feedback from many parents for how helpful these sessions have been. Our last one is Thursday, May 28th.

To wrap things up for everyone who hasn't been able to attend, Russ and I are doing a Facebook Live this Tuesday (May 26th at 8:30pm) summarizing the topics we've talked about.
