View this email online if it doesn't display correctly

What we covered during the main session last month (August):

PSAT testing:
  • When it happens and why it's beneficial to take no matter what

GPA myths & reality:
  • Weighted vs. unweighted, what colleges really look at, when to take hard classes vs. get a better grade

Admissions myths & how the process actually works
  • What admissions officers actually look at and care about when it comes to applications, who reviews applications, how admit/deny decisions are made, and who makes the final decisions
What we covered in the main session this month:
  • Getting off to a good year (narrowing down clubs/extracurriculars, taking on leadership roles in clubs and extracurricular activities, and why leadership and impact are important)
  • Letters of recommendation & building real relationships with teachers (the benefits of asking teachers from Junior year classes, the best time to ask at the end of Junior year, and encouraging students to stop by class a few minutes early throughout the year to get to know a few teachers beyond just academics)
  • AP, IB and Honors (what these classes mean, when to take them, and the amazing benefits that AP exams can offer once your student gets to college)
In case you missed it, you can click here to watch a replay of this session.

Action items to be aware of in September:
  • For students going into their Junior year, register and take the SAT or ACT
  • Continue visiting college campuses
  • Make sure your student is registered for the upcoming PSAT in October
  • Encourage your student to get involved in extracurricular activities and clubs at school (for Juniors, we encourage you to begin taking on leadership roles in these activities)

Reminder for how to get the most out of the concierge service:
  • The 1st Wednesday of every month will be the monthly coaching session. Office hours vary so check the google sheet.
  • During office hours, we’ll answer any general questions that we’ve received via emails or posted in the FB groups.
  • Use the Facebook group to share information with one another, and ask questions on your mind (we’ll look here before office hours).
  • We send reminder emails the day of monthly sessions and office hours. Please add "debbie@road2college.com" to your email address book if you aren't receiving our emails.
  • We've created a google sheet with the calendar of all the sessions and topics. In addition, there is a tab in the google sheet labeled "Videos" that has links to all the recorded sessions.

The next Office Hours is Wednesday, September 25th at 7pm EST.

Best,
Russ, Marisa & Debbie
