No April Fool's Joke Here...Merit Aid and Need-Based Aid ARE Different

You may THINK you deserve need-based financial aid, but a certain university thinks differently. 

That is, financial need is not determined based upon what a family feels like they can or cannot pay for Colleges make that determination.

And, when it comes to merit-based aid, well, that's pretty much at a college's discretion as well.

Sometimes the two types of aid go in tandem, so knowing the difference between the two is important.

Merit-Aid Pre-Read: It's Not Just for Athletes Anymore

Back in the day, student-athletes could get a financial aid pre-read that would help them get a clearer picture of what their funding would look like.

The good news is that the pre-read is not limited to athletes any longer.
At least two colleges including The College of Wooster and Whitman College have now begun to offer merit aid pre-reads for applicants who request them, regardless of their athletic qualifications.
