What we covered during the main session last month (December): - We discussed what your student’s PSAT results mean and how to use them to develop a standardized testing plan.
- We talked about picking the right classes for the next school year.
- Summer programs...are they important? What kind should you consider? Are they worth the money?
- We shared the transition to the Concierge Service in February for continued and much more specific support throughout the college application and admissions process (For families with Juniors in high school right now).
For Your Information:
- The 2019 JV Concierge service has come to and end. We've sent emails about moving to the Varsity Concierge service for those with current 11th graders.
- To those families with current 10th graders, if you've decided to continue with the JV service, you'll be treated to a Varsity coaching session in January to see what 11th grade has in store for you.
- We're opening the JV and Varsity service for new families with our Build The Perfect College List Challenge starting January 26th at 8:30pm. All existing JV and new Varsity families will automatically be included to participate in that Challenge.
Action items to be aware of in January:
- Research summer programs NOW so you aren’t late with applications if you are interested.
- Decide if you want to continue with the Varsity or JV service in February. If not, there is nothing you need to do. If not, you can opt out via the email you will receive from Road2College.
- Meet with Guidance to decide which classes are best for your student’s upcoming school year. Remember challenge but don’t overwhelm, don’t follow the herd (take classes that make sense for your student, and remember Russ’ Rule - only move up to an advanced class if you are confident you will get a B+ or better as a final grade).
- Take a practice ACT, compare it to your PSAT, decide which test is best for your student, when they should take it and how they will prepare.
Ahead on the Road... - For those remaining in the JV Concierge Service (high school Sophomores), the next JV session will be February 9, 2020 at 7pm EST and your "sneak preview" Varsity session is Sunday, January 12th at 8:30pm. (You'll receive reminders for both.)
- For those graduating to the Varsity Concierge Service (high school Juniors), the next session will be January 12, 2020 at 8:30pm EST.
