Does Missing the FAFSA Deadline Put You on a Boat to Nowhere?

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form opens on October 1...for the 2022 school year.

If you missed the deadline, we would not be so crass as to say that you "missed the boat," but you essentially did, for the 2021 school year.

To complicate matters further, in addition to the definite deadlines for filing FAFSA that are dictated by the federal government, state agencies, as well as the colleges your student is applying to, could have different deadlines.

The federal FAFSA deadline is June 30th. State and college deadlines maybe earlier.

That's why is SO important to pay attention to dates.

More Deadlines to Be Aware Of

You might say that the entire college admissions process is comprised of rules and regulations.

And the wheels of progress turn very slowly in many instances, especially when you're waiting to hear back about aid or when you're waiting for students to study, write essays, resumes, gather letters of recommendation, etc.

Think of it as living at the DMV for months.

But, when it comes to applying to college, there are some steps to the process that can go very quickly, depending on how your student chooses to apply.

ED (Early Decision) and Instant Decision can give your family the answers they seek quite quickly. You do however, have to be aware of the ramifications and pros and cons.

Having a good understanding of all of the application deadlines can help your student decide which one will work best.
