Does FAFSA Play Hard to Get?

If you haven't yet filled out the FAFSA form, or if you have filled it out and are still waiting to get a response, we would like to remind you of the word of the week...er, perhaps let's make that the word of the year: Patience!

It would help to have an estimate of when you will start receiving award letters.

Waiting for financial aid to process and be approved can seem like it takes forever, but we promise, the "FAFSA folks" are not leading you on.

To help you better understand what might be happening, and what might be holding it up, here is a typical timeline of the process.

Breaking Up Is Hard to Do

Getting rejected as an adult hurts like heck, so imagine how painful a rejection, especially from a college you had your sights set on, can hurt your kid. (We know, you don't really want to imagine that.)

But as we said, YOU are the adult and they will look to you as a guide and for support. Here is some sage advice for you from an expert on how to handle your kid's disappointment and how to help them handle it.

Give a Little, Get A Lot

For the past two years we've worked together as a community to crowdsource and share our student's acceptances, need-based aid, and merit scholarship offers.

This year, more than ever, it's important to see how colleges are awarding financial aid and merit scholarships, and how test scores (or no test scores) are impacting these outcomes.

Early and rolling acceptances are arriving for the 2021-2022 school year, along with financial aid and merit scholarship offers.

Our updated free tool, COMPARE COLLEGE OFFERS (CCO) is live!
If your student has received offers from colleges, please use the tool to compare your offers and see what other students at the same colleges received.

Over the next few weeks and months, additional college offers will be added from this year's admissions season.

I'm excited to see us all work together, share our information and help clear up the mystery of the admissions and paying for college process.

My goal is to provide affordable services, insightful information and access to actionable data so your family can make more informed decisions about college.
