Most importantly, we hope you and your family are safe and stay healthy as we continue to navigate this challenging time.

As a result of all that has changed in the last month, we will be changing the format of our College Session to include updates as we have received them regarding the college application and admissions process as well as to answer your questions as best we can. Please understand that things continue to evolve, and we don’t have all the answers. However, we will continue to try to assist, support, and guide you throughout your college process as best we can.

Now, more than ever, with these new events, our Concierge Service can add tremendous value and needed guidance to families impacted by this “new” college environment.

Please share the link below with friends and family who would benefit from our support just as you have.

Many of our 2020 members are still with us and are grateful to have the help they need during this time. They have had tremendous results, but there is still more to do, and we are right there with them helping them every step of the way.

We appreciate your support and so will those you share our service with now. Thank you!!

What we covered during the main session last month (March):

Introduction to the Concierge Service (for your information)
  • At the beginning of each month, we’ll cover a few important/timely topics (Training Sessions @ 7:00pm eastern, one Sunday per month. Check Concierge calendar here for full schedule)
  • Each month we will also offer one Office Hour session (@ 7:00 pm eastern, one Sunday per month. Check here for the full schedule). Office Hours are designed to answer any general or specific questions that you have regarding ANY aspect of the college planning and application process.
  • Use the Facebook group to share information with one another, and to ask questions that are on your mind. In addition, check communications within this group for special announcements, posts and information sharing from Road2College. We’ll look here before Office Hours and attempt to share collective concerns, interests and needs as they arise.

SAT/ACT Tests and Class Choices
  • We discussed SAT and ACT readiness. For all freshmen it is too early to think about standardized testing. Sophomores may be able to consider it if…..
  • ALGEBRA 2! If your student is completing Algebra 2 sophomore year they can take a practice SAT and ACT at the end of the school year to see if early testing makes sense.
  • If your sophomore tests very well on the practice SAT at the end of their school year, they may want to consider some prep for the PSAT October of their junior year for National Merit consideration.
  • Future consideration: Make sure your student ALWAYS includes Writing with their ACT and at least one test with Writing for the SAT.
  • There is a difference between IB and AP classes. AP and Subject Tests tend to be closely aligned. There is no correlation between IB and Subject Tests. Proper preparation needs to take place to get the scores you desire.
  • When choosing classes remember RUSS’ RULE: Aim for challenge and progression not overwhelm and suffering.
  • AP exams will be taking place online so continue preparations to test well.
  • Have your student talk with other students in the classes your student is considering before commiting. Make sure your student understands what they are getting into prior to agreeing to take the higher level class(es).

What we covered this month:
  • Ongoing college changes and the impact of the current situation on the process.
  • Online visitations and demonstrated interest.
  • “Stay at Home” techniques for success.
  • Impact of changes on summer programs, resume building and majors.

Action items to be aware of in April:
  • Make sure your student is registered for any AP exams, study as usual.
  • Speak with your student to decide if there are immediate questions to ask our team during Office Hours and email. Addressing these things early on can help alleviate stress and anxiety as you all go through the process.
  • Meet with Guidance to discuss class choice options for the next school year.
  • Pay attention to emails (check your SPAM too) from Collegeboard, ACT, colleges so you are up-to-date on policies, re-openings and ongoing communications.

Ahead on the Road...
  • Our next Office Hours will be held April 19, 2020 at 7pm EST.

Best,
Russ & Debbie
