Watch my Facebook Live with Anna Ren, Tuesday, August 5th at 8:30pm EST.  Here's a link for this Facebook Live.

We'll be talking about how our upcoming workshops will help get you and your student out of College Essay Hell.

One of my worst parenting experiences was trying to encourage my daughter to write her college essays. I remember being on a beach vacation and prodding her to start thinking about what she wanted to write about.

The prodding turned into yelling, screaming, and both of us walking away not talking to each other. That was at the end of August and I thought we were starting on the early side to get these essays out of the way.

Of course you can foresee the rest - school started in September and EVERY weekend from then till November 1st was an argument about working on essays.

Ugh - how I wish I had gotten some support in the process.

With my second child I handled it differently (and better). And hopefully with my third I'll use all my lessons learned.

Now I believe there's nothing wrong in getting support for the college admissions and funding process. People get support from many places: friends, family, schools, social media, websites, and professionals.

And to give families more support, at a reasonable price, we're offering a few programs (for right now and more to come in the fall).

So you don't end up in essay Hell, like I did, I recommend you attend the college essay workshops being lead by Anna Ren, of Elite Advantage Prep.

For information about managing the Common App, watch my Facebook Live with Marisa Meddin.

See details for both below.

As always, feel free to respond to this email with questions and/or comments. I've learned so much from talking with other parents going through this process.

Best,
Debbie

Two College Essay Workshops in August!
Don't panic if your student hasn't figured out their essay topic yet, but it is time to get cracking.

This month, College Admissions Pro Anna Ren, of Elite Advantage Prep, will be running two Workshops that will help students and guide them through the complete process of essay writing—teaching techniques and strategies along the way.

College Essay Jumpstart
When: Sunday, August 11th at 8 - 9pm EST
This workshop is intended for parents and students to attend together. (Bonding time!!)

Anna will review the fundamentals of what makes an essay compelling, show how to identify “hot” topics for your student, discuss the best ways to review and provide feedback, and walk through creating a plan to make sure your student finishes their essays without driving you crazy.

Find Your Voice College Essay Workshop
When: Sundays, August 18th AND August 25th at 7:30 - 9pm EST
This workshop includes two sessions, with enrollment limited to 15 students. Students must have also attended the Jumpstart workshop.

Anna will work with students to brainstorm unique topics and real-life stories to help reflect who your student truly is.

In this multi-session workshop, Anna will show students how to use writing techniques, including anecdotes, dialogue, and sensory detail that will help create powerful essays.

In the second session, Anna will review essay drafts, while students self-edit and polish essays to ensure they are engaging, meaningful and memorable.

All participants will have access to a private Facebook group till September 1st for additional support.
Avoid These Common App Mistakes
Coming up on August 8th at 8:30pm (EST), we'll be doing a Facebook Live with College Admissions Expert Marisa Meddin, to discuss “The Most Common Mistakes Students Make Filling Out the Common App.”

By the end of this discussion you’ll feel totally confident you can help your student navigate the common application and avoid mistakes that could unnecessarily hurt their chances of getting into the schools they are applying to.
