CC to Uni: Sometimes 2+2 Doesn't Always Equal 4

Not all high school seniors graduate and head straightaway to a four-year college. There, we said it!

Some decide (for one reason or another) amongst other destinations, to begin their college education at a community college in the hopes of eventually obtaining a bachelor's degree.

This is known as the “2+2 program” approach, and involves taking a number of general education courses at community college before transferring to a four-year college or university.

There are a number of potential road bumps those students may face along the way to completing their associate degree and transferring. It’s important for them to know exactly what is expected of them as a community college student and four-year college hopeful before registering for their first semester.

Spotlight on a Pretty Amazing Student!

We know all of our kids are special in their own way, and it's a blessing to be able to impress upon them just how proud we are of their accomplishments--large and small, and everything in between.

To help put things into perspective, during this very crazy time for students and their families, we are sharing the words (with her permission) from a mom who is a member of our Paying For College 101 Facebook group. Everyone's path is different, and each stop along the way deserves celebrating.

"My son has autism (aspergers), adhd, depression, and generalized anxiety disorder, all diagnosed in 2nd grade. It's been a hell of a road getting him through school, and especially high school. Countless appointments with counselors, psychologists, neurologists, and psychiatrists - plus even more countless medications over the years. Hospitalizations, intensive outpatient therapies, and more. I have cried more tears than I can count over our struggles and honestly there were many days (still are) when I wasn't sure if we would make it. After many conversations he has decided to go to HCC (Houston Community College) in the fall to pursue his Associate's degree in Gaming Design & Simulation (video games are his obsession). I decided this past weekend that it may not be A&M, or UT, or MIT, but......I'm just as proud as those moms after everything we've been through. So I bought the shirt, we did the pics, and we will celebrate just the same! I just wanted to share in case there are others who can relate. It doesn't have to be a big college or an ivy league. It doesn't have to be all A's or 1500 SAT scores. It is all relative depending on the child. #OneProudMama #Classof2021 #HCC" --CK
'Tis the Season of Gifting

While it is true that we highly recommend you not go overboard in the gift department...after all, you've got college tuition to pay for...something tells us that human nature will kick in and a gift list will ultimately be referenced.

We put together one more list of items that we know college students and those who are college-bound will like.
