Schneider setting milestone by adding almost 100 electric trucks to fleet

GREEN BAY -- Schneider, one of the largest US providers of premier multimodal transportation and logistic services, will soon take delivery of nearly 100 Class 8 battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). The super modern trucks are manufactured by Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) at the Portland, Oregon plant and will be based at Schneider’s operational center in El Monte, California.

Originally, Schneider had ordered 62 eCascadia freightliners. The company now announced an order increase to 92.

The new trucks will help meet Schneider’s ambitious sustainability goals of reducing CO2 per mile emissions by 7.5% by 2025 and a whopping 60% by 2035. Currently, Schneider has already met more than half the 2025 goal by eliminating per mile emissions by 5%.....

FOND DU LAC — Sam Meyer has seen a lot of change in downtown Fond du Lac in the two decades that his State Farm agency has operated there.

“There have probably been tens of millions of dollars invested in downtown Fond du Lac with the Hotel Retlaw and various restaurants,” he said. “This is really turning down here, and this is really starting to be a place where people go. It’s a destination.”

In the past 15 years, there’s been about $130 million of private investment downtown, according to the Downtown Fond du Lac Partnership. Occupancy is a little more than 95%...

GREEN BAY — New North area companies were among those honored recently by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Vets Ready Employer Initiative.

The Vets Ready Initiative encourages employers to establish a support system within their workplace, hire and retain more veterans, and connect with veterans in the community and their families. Businesses are separated into three categories and either receive a gold or silver certification. For 2022, DWD is honoring 10 employers statewide for their achievements in highlighting the importance of veterans in Wisconsin’s workforce....

In Ashwaubenon, “The Ridge YMCA at Capital Credit Union” will be located on the third and fourth floors of the Capital Credit Union building, 1121 West Main Avenue.

The “adult wellness facility” will be available for adult YMCA members ages 19 and older, offering cardio and strength equipment, group exercise classes, personal training, and child watch while you work out. GREEN BAY – It's the giving season for the Green Bay Packers.

The team said Tuesday it awarded a $250,000 Veterans Impact Grant to Racine-based nonprofit Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin. On Thursday, the Green Bay Packers Foundation will award a record $1.25 million to 243 civic and charitable organizations from across Wisconsin during its annual noon luncheon at Lambeau Field.

This year, foundation grants will go to organizations working in the areas of animal welfare, civic and community programs, environmental causes, health and wellness, including drug/alcohol services, and domestic violence causes. Human Rights Campaign gives Green Bay its highest-ever LGBTQ+ equality score

GREEN BAY — The Human Rights Campaign, an organization that advocates for LGBTQ+ rights, has given Green Bay a very high rating for LGBTQ+ inclusivity in the city.

Green Bay's latest Municipal Equality Index score — or MEI — is 90/100, the highest-ever rating in the city.

Just four years ago, that same score was 28.

"My understanding is we've seen the largest growth in terms of municipalities within the state of Wisconsin," Mayor Eric Genrich said. "So, we're very proud of that effort."...

Enrollment at Wisconsin technical colleges grows by more than 10 percent

Enrollment across the Wisconsin Technical College System grew by more than 10 percent during the 2021-22 academic year. The increase follows a double-digit enrollment decline driven by the COVID-19 pandemic and marks the largest gains for the system in at least a decade.

All of the state's 16 technical colleges saw enrollment gains during the 2021-22 school year, according to the most recent WTCS Factbook.

Nicolet Area Technical College in Rhinelander saw the largest increase of 21.9 percent over the previous academic year. Western Technical College in La Crosse reported a 19 percent increase and Northcentral Technical College in Wausau posted gains of 15.5 percent year-over-year....
