Menasha to use federal COVID funds to help pay for $4.9 million redevelopment of Jefferson Park

MENASHA - The redevelopment of Jefferson Park will begin in earnest next summer thanks in part to federal COVID-19 stimulus dollars.

The Common Council recently voted 7-0 to use $1.5 million from the American Rescue Plan Act to fund improvements to Jefferson Park. Another $150,000 in ARPA money has been reserved for fundraising and procuring grants.

Mayor Don Merkes said city parks and trails experienced a lot of use during the coronavirus pandemic.

"We wanted to make sure that those safe, outdoor spaces were available to everyone if we ever had those situations again," Merkes told The Post-Crescent, "so we thought it was a good use of those funds."..

UWGB invited local schools, kindergarten through eighth grade, for its Education Day to watch the men's basketball game at no cost at the Resch Center Monday morning.

Kids got a glimpse of what their future could look like. "Its never too early to start the conversation about college, how often are you asking the little ones in your life all the way up to that middle and high school, you know, 'What do you want to be when you grow up?' WRIGHTSTOWN – A lifelong dream of working and living in a former church led Musician Walter Croll to the Village Wrightstown and the historic, early 20th century (built in 1911) building – which was once home to the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church congregation.

“I've always been interested in the acoustics of some churches,” he said. “For some reason, even as a teenager, I always thought it would be neat to live in an old church. So I started looking into it and one by one the bowling pins fell down, and I bought a church in Wrightstown.”
