MARINETTE -- Northeast Wisconsin Technical College has named Cindy Bailey the new dean of its Marinette campus.
“Cindy’s relationships with key leaders throughout the region in business, industry, and education will be invaluable to the NWTC Marinette Campus in its continued growth,” said Dr. Kathryn Rogalski, NWTC vice president of learning. “We are thrilled to have Cindy at our institution to build upon our mission and values.”

Skalnik has two decades of experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion including time as an independent consultant to private and public organizations worldwide. She earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Norbert College and a master’s degree in social work and mental health from the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee.
“One of my main goals is to expand the definition of safety here at Boldt,” Skalnik said. “Together, we can create a workplace that is safe both physically and psychologically so each of us can bring our whole selves to work.”

Oshkosh city council to review plans that would give nearly $2 million in ARPA funds to five nonprofits

OSHKOSH – City Manager Mark Rohloff will present a proposal Tuesday to the city council that would give about $2 million of federal relief funds from the COVID-19 pandemic to five nonprofits with a focus on helping at-risk populations.
The city asked for proposals from citizens and nonprofits in June 2021, and Rohloff in a memo written Aug. 3 recommended about $1.95 million in funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) go to the following five nonprofits:
- Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Shelter: $350,000
- ADVOCAP's Eviction Prevention/rental assistance program: $130,000
- COTS Transitional Housing Program: $250,000
- Boys & Girls Club's facility expansion: $1 million
- Oshkosh Food Co-Op: $220,000...

"Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition" is coming to the KI Convention Center, 333 Main St., Nov. 18 through Jan. 3, according to information posted on the touring event's website.
Visitors will have the chance to stand in awe of the 34 ceiling paintings brought to life through a special printing technique that emulates the look and feel of the originals as reproduced from licensed, high-definition photos. APPLETON -- Lawrence University is starting a new tradition with the beginning of another school year.
After a year in office, Lawrence University President Laurie Carter -- the school's first African American president in its 175-year history -- is excited to continue building new traditions.
With the completion of a new welcome archway, Lawrence's Class of 2026 will be the first group of first-years to walk through the arch to Main Hall for Carter's welcome speech.
This class certainly won't be the last, though, as Lawrence looks to make it a lasting tradition..

First Great Lakes-built cargo ship in nearly 40 years arrives in the Twin Ports
WISCONSIN PUBLIC RADIO
The newest U.S.-flagged freighter on the Great Lakes glided into the Twin Ports on Tuesday. The Mark W. Barker is the first such vessel built on the lakes in almost 40 years.
The ship is owned by Ohio-based Interlake Steamship Company and named after its president of the same name. Built by Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, the freighter left Sturgeon Bay on July 27. The ship was built to move salt from the Great Lakes region for Cargill Inc., and the company christened the vessel in Cleveland, Ohio, on Thursday.
The Mark W. Barker is the first ship built to operate on the Great Lakes since 1983, and it is the first built by Interlake Steamship since 1981. The company said it’s invested more than $100 million to modernize its fleet to transport around 20 million tons of cargo, including iron ore, coal and salt....
