Door County cherry pickers can help Ukraine relief efforts with volunteer picking work
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE
STURGEON BAY - Susan Barnard is turning a problem with finding employees into a chance for volunteers to help Ukrainians in need.
Barnard is the owner of Barnard Farms, which grows and picks tart and sweet cherries, apricots, apples, plums, pears and more on its 50 acres, then sells them at their Door County Fruit Connection roadside stand. (It also has a pick-your-own season for tart cherries.) Both are located at the intersection of State 42 and County I across from Door Peninsula Winery in Carlsville.
To pick the fruits each summer and fall, Barnard traditionally has relied on a mix of local workers and workers from outside the U.S. who come to Door County for the summer and work at area orchards, farms, restaurants, resorts and hotels, and other mostly seasonal businesses on a H-2A or J-1 visa. The H-2A is for temporary agricultural workers; the J-1 for work-and-study exchange students...

Marinette School District shows off $30.9 million referendum additions
WLUK
MARINETTE -- A $30.9 million referendum project that passed in November 2020 for the Marinette School District is almost complete.
The district calls it the “rightsizing project” because it is closing two schools while adding on to two others.
After operating hundreds of students below capacity, the Marinette School District is excited to bring four elementary schools down to two for this school year.
“In doing so, we could save some funds -- save some dollars by getting rid of these two buildings -- but also right sizing, getting all our resources in one spot,” said Corey Lambie, the superintendent of Marinette School District....

Wisconsin broadband task force calls for continued funding, support to leverage historic infrastructure funds
MADISON.COM
Billions of dollars in federal assistance could help bring high-speed internet service to thousands of Wisconsin households, according to a new report, but not without continued help and funding from the state.
In its second annual report released Tuesday, a task force appointed by Gov. Tony Evers calls on state leaders to continue support for broadband expansion, which has already included nearly $300 million in state and federal funding.
Established in July 2020, the Governor’s Task Force on Broadband Access last year called for more funding, better data and streamlined permitting, among other things, in order to bring high-speed internet to all homes and businesses by 2025...
