Promoting the Regional Brand Marinette-built USS Milwaukee returns home after drug operation WLUK MARINETTE -- A Navy ship built in Marinette and named for Wisconsin's largest city has returned to its home port after helping fight the cocaine trade. Navy officials say the USS Milwaukee deployed last December to the Caribbean Sea. During the deployment, Milwaukee was credited with helping disrupt the movement of about 915 kilograms of cocaine, worth an estimated street value of $64 million. Students in northeast Wisconsin have another path to a bachelor’s degree thanks to a new partnership between the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and Fox Valley Technical College. Under a new agreement, approved by the UW System Board of Regents Friday, students can earn a liberal arts transfer associate degree at FVTC and be eligible to transfer into a baccalaureate program at UW Oshkosh with junior status. “This increases the educational opportunities and pathways for students in our region to complete a four-year degree at UWO,” said Provost John Koker. “Offering additional pathways to a bachelor’s degree, especially to non-traditional and returning adult students, is central to the mission of the University.”...

Wisconsin small businesses are still able to receive $10,000 grants to help start up or expand their operations as part of the state's Main Street Bounceback Program. Around $34 million has gone to more than 3,400 businesses and nonprofits throughout the state as of April 1, according to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp., which manages the program. The program launched in August and gives businesses grants they can use to pay leases and cover other costs that come from opening up a physical storefront.
