FOND DU LAC -- Fond du Lac County is in mourning, following the sudden and unexpected death of County Executive Allen Buechel. The 74 year old, less than a year into his eighth term, passed away Sunday following a heart attack.
The longest tenured county executive in the state, Allen Buechel was also one of the most well respected. His death, over the weekend, still a shock to those he’s worked alongside.

Neenah Paper, SWM to merge, forming $3 billion specialty paper company

APPLETON - Specialty paper manufacturers Neenah Paper Inc. and Schweitzer-Mauduit International Inc. (SWM) have agreed to merge, forming a company with a combined $3 billion in sales.
The all-stock deal calls for Neenah shareholders to receive 1.358 shares of SWM stock for every Neenah Inc. share they own. If completed as expected later this year, SWM shareholders would own 58% of the new company and Neenah shareholders 42%.
Neenah's stock closed Monday up $1.99 to $40.20 on the New York Stock Exchange. SWM's stock was down $0.44 at $29.67, also on the NYSE...

DNR awards Brownfields Grant to City of Manitowoc
WISCONSIN DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES (DNR)
MADISON – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced a Brownfields Grant to the city of Manitowoc to assist with the assessment of potential environmental contamination at a property that has been owned and operated by multiple railroad companies since 1895.
The award is from the DNR's Wisconsin Assessment Monies program, which provides contractor services worth up to $35,000 for the environmental assessment of eligible brownfields sites.
Brownfields are abandoned, idle and underused properties where reuse is stalled by potential contamination. Brownfields vary in size, location, age and past use; they can be anything from a 500-acre former automobile assembly plant to a small, abandoned gas station.

GREEN BAY -- UW-Green Bay continues its collaboration with the Center for Suicide Awareness and UW Oshkosh to host the third annual all-day Northeast Wisconsin Suicide Prevention Summit on Thursday, May 19, 2022. This year’s theme is “Bouncing Back: Building Resiliency” and features wide-ranging mental health experts giving presentations on valuable topics from comprehensive viewpoints.
Participants have the option of attending in-person or virtually, and college students are eligible for a discounted student rate. OSHKOSH -- For the first time in three years, thousands of people will descend upon the EAA grounds in Oshkosh for the Wisconsin Public Service Farm Show.
