There are few things as powerful and complex as the human brain, with 100 billion neurons making trillions of connections.
And yet, many workplaces expect all human brains to learn, process information and behave in the same way — in spite of research that suggests 15% to 20% of the U.S. population is neurodivergent. As workplaces continue to look at innovative ways to attract and retain much-needed employees, the neurodiverse community remains largely untapped. Of individuals who are autistic, 85% were unemployed in 2021 — and that statistic doesn’t take into account other neurodivergent individuals. Tammy Ross, an occupational therapist, and her husband Scott Ross, a director in the senior living care field, wanted to open The Sensory Club Neenah to help individuals like their son, who is diagnosed with autism. Read More 2> Encourage Educational Attainment LTC awarded nearly $2 million in grants SHEBOYGAN SUN CLEVELAND – Lakeshore Technical College has received $1.94 million in grant funding from the Wisconsin Technical College System. The money will help support LTC’s competency-based education programs in nursing, information technology web and software development, and manufacturing. Competency-based learning allows students to begin programs outside of traditional start dates, and finish them as soon as they demonstrate mastery of competency requirements. The method is convenient for students who work or raise families, and also beneficial for employers, who get skilled workers in a quicker, more efficient manner....
Economic Development Feature Kewaunee County, Door County organizations receive grants from Green Bay foundation GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE GREEN BAY - Seven nonprofit organizations that offer services in Kewaunee County and one based in Door County were among the recipients of grants announced March 9 from the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation.
The foundation awarded a total of $312,220 to 29 programs and initiatives offered by nonprofits serving Brown, Kewaunee and Oconto counties through its Funds for Greater Green Bay grants program. The winners were selected from a record-setting number of nominees across six categories and recognized at the Governor's Tourism Conference held in Green Bay March 12 to 14. The Arts, Culture and Heritage Award went to the John Michael Kohler Arts Center. The center is a visual and performing arts complex that supports self-taught and contemporary artists.
