Talented, diverse group of six Lawrence faculty earn tenure appointments

APPLETON -- President Laurie A. Carter and the university’s Board of Trustees, based on recommendations by the faculty Committee on Tenure, Promotion, Reappointment, and Equal Employment Opportunity, approved the granting of tenure to Israel Del Toro, biology; Thelma Jiménez-Anglada, Spanish; Nancy Lin, art history; Rebecca Perry, music theory; Graham Sazama, chemistry; and Jesús Gregorio Smith, ethnic studies. All six will be promoted to associate professor at the start of the 2023-24 academic year.
“I am thrilled that these six colleagues have been awarded tenure,” said Peter Blitstein, provost and dean of faculty. ““These distinguished faculty members, among whom are several teaching award winners and recipients of highly competitive federal grants, are the most diverse group of faculty to be tenured in Lawrence’s recent history and together represent the kind of teacher-scholars who make Lawrence a leading national liberal arts college and conservatory.”...

Downtown Kaukauna apartments will reserve majority of units for workforce housing

KAUKAUNA - The city's $30 million downtown apartment development will now dedicate 75% of its units to workforce housing — devoting a majority of its downtown housing project to lower-income residents.
The two five-story, 90-unit Dreamville Kaukauna Apartments on Lawe Street were originally going to be all market-rate units but will now market 135 of its planned 180 units to households making $55,000 or less.
Renters making 80% or less of Kaukauna's median household income of $69,000 will qualify for the workforce housing units. The units will look and cost the same as the market-rate apartments in the complex, which will range between $900 and $2,500...

Grants awarded to 29 Northeast Wisconsin nonprofits

GREEN BAY -- More than $312,000 in grants has been awarded to 29 nonprofit organizations serving Brown, Kewaunee and Oconto counties.
The money comes from the the Funds for Greater Green Bay grants program, a collection of funds of the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation.
"We are always looking for ways to support organizations large and small that are improving the quality of life in our communities," Kari Olsen, director of grants and scholarships at the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation, said in a news release. "As inflation continues to tighten budgets everywhere, nonprofits are working to address greater and greater needs. This infusion of funds will bring needed resources to the critical work that each is doing."
