Point Beach Nuclear Plant passes 200 billion kilowatts

TOWN OF TWO CREEKS -- The Point Beach Nuclear Plant in Manitowoc County has reached a milestone.
Plant owner NextEra Energy says Point Beach recently produced its 200 billionth kilowatt of electricity. NextEra says that is equivalent to a 100-horsepower motor running for 3 million years.
Point Beach has been operating for more than 50 years. It is the last remaining nuclear power plant operating in Wisconsin.

International Women's Day highlighted by the women of Fox Valley public safety

APPLETON — People all around the world celebrated International Women’s Day with art, demonstrations, and conferences, including one in Appleton.
The Appleton Police Department hosted the second annual Women in Public Safety Day.
“We’ve brought in mentors from a lot of the local agencies: police, fire, EMS, legal services, pretty much any support role potentially in law enforcement,” said Megan Cash, the Appleton Police Department community resource lieutenant.
The goal was to instill in young women that they too can have a career in public safety....

Manitowoc County STEM student heading to World Robotics Championship

MISHICOT – A science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) student from Mishicot High School will be flying down to Texas to compete in the World Robotics Championship in April.
Elijah ‘E.J.’ Antoniewicz, a junior at Mishicot and a member of the STEMpunk 4531 Robotics Club, will be heading to Houston, Texas, to compete for scholarships.
“When my name was called out, the first thing that came to mind is ‘this has to be a joke. This can’t be happening,'” said Antoniewicz. “When I realized it was happening, the first thing I did was give my teammates a hug.”......

WIAA State Girls Basketball Tournament expects to make local businesses millions

ASHWAUBENON – Preparations for the WIAA State Girls Basketball Tournament are underway as teams and fans prepare to travel to the Greater Green Bay Area for the event.
Played at the Resch Center, local businesses say they’re looking forward to serving customers from all across the state.
“There will be a whole bunch of people here eating and families coming in with athletes that are participating in the tournament,” said the Assistant Director of Operations of Stadium View Bar & Grill, Patrick Morgan.

St. Norbert College names Packers president commencement speaker

DE PERE -- A familiar face of the Green Bay Packers will give the commencement speech for a group of college graduates.
Packers president Mark Murphy will speak at St. Norbert College on Sunday, May 14 at 11 a.m. in the Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center on campus.
In addition to giving the commencement address, Murphy will be given an honorary doctorate.
