It is highlighted by leadership from the state’s lead economic development organization and from its internationally known football team. Talent Development in the New North Lawrence University announces Laurie Carter as its next president, replacing Mark Burstein Post Crescent APPLETON, Wis. – Lawrence University's 17th president will be Laurie Carter, the first person of color to lead the liberal arts college in its 174-year history. Carter, who's president of Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania, will replace current President Mark Burstein on July 1. Burstein announced last fall he would be leaving his post at the end of the academic year after eight years at Lawrence.
