Welding a successful path for the future: Oconto Middle School students have opportunity to learn the skilled trade through new program

OCONTO – Chad Hendzel, a NWTC welding instructor and operations manager at Yakfab Metals Inc. in Oconto, said the sooner a student's skill and passion for a trade is identified, “the sooner they can start a successful path forward to a great career.”
A new program at Oconto Middle School is allowing students to do just that.
Recently, the school acquired a MobileArc Augmented Reality Welding System and Prusa i3 3D printers, which gives interested students the opportunity to learn welding skills without the dangers of the real tools....

Twenty-five-year-old Matt Gill grew up in the Fox Valley. After a stint at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, he left Wisconsin last June.
"The reason I left is because I started working remotely after COVID, and my girlfriend got a job in Utah," he said. "We will probably come back in the future to be closer to our family, but it depends on how her career goes."

APPLETON/GREEN BAY— February is Black History Month; which can be celebrated by supporting Black-owned businesses in the community.
The Cozzy Corner in Appleton has been serving up their southern cooking in their unique and bluesy atmosphere since 2013 in Downtown Appleton. Owner Philip Bennett says in February they work to support other Black-owned businesses.
“We give out coupons and we ask the other owners if they have any deals going on,” said Bennett. “We’re trying to spotlight other African American owned stores in the area.”..
