Hi Everyone, I'll be demonstrating how to make Natural Hair and Body Products at the Clarence Park Environmental Market this Saturday (details below). Topics covered will include making alternatives to commercial personal care products: hair shampoo, personal deodorants, body powders and tooth-paste (see sage tooth-powder recipe below). All of which are chemicals that can have adverse reactions for people - not to mention the impact they have on the environment. Please come say hello - I'm always pleased to see people from my email list! Pam - The Shoppe www.theshoppe.com.au |

Tooth-paste alternative: Commercial tooth-paste contains added chemicals, including artificial sweetener and synthetic frothing agent. The sensitive mucus membrane area of the mouth readily absorbs chemicals and other agents. Here's one of my recipes from the talk that can be used as a safer alternative.......
|
|
| Recipe: Sage Tooth-powder Mix together 2 tablespoons common salt* with 3 tablespoons bicarbonate soda. Add 8-10 fresh sage leaves. Process in food processor to a fine powder. Pour into clean jar and seal – best left 1-2 days to allow sage to permeate the mix before using. To brush teeth: Dampen the brush (a soft brush is best), dip in the powder and gently brush your teeth in the same way you would with toothpaste. Rinse mouth. Alternative method: If, like me, you are concerned about using abrasive powders on teeth - here's my method – make up a solution of one teaspoon of tooth-powder in ½ cup warm water. Stir with the brush to dissolve then brush your teeth in the usual way. Use the remaining solution as a general mouth wash. (Bicarb soda deodorises, cleans and helps whiten teeth, salt is an anti-bacterial as well as a healing agent). * Use good quality sea salt if preferred - make sure it is not granulated - finely ground salt is best for making tooth-powder. Why
use sage? Fresh sage chewed or rubbed over the teeth will act as an
excellent teeth cleaner, polish and gum strengthener. Sage has been
used for centuries for oral care - and, in fact, is considered the for-bearer
of modern day tooth-paste! |

Product from The Shoppe Catalogue: Sage or Peppermint tooth-powder in recyclable paper bags. Contains a base of bicarb soda (whitener and deodoriser) and natural sea salt (anti-bacterial and natural healing agent). Available in two varieties: Sage tooth-powder: (contains fresh sage and no essential oil). Sage is well-known from times past for its healing properties (gums) and strengthening of teeth. Peppermint Tooth-powder: (contains peppermint essential oil) freshens and eradicates bad breath and is similar to commercial tooth-paste in flavour. For some people it's easier to become accustomed to after using commercial tooth-paste. Download The Shoppe Catalogue and how to order here.
