2015 Alta Alella Tallarol
Pansa Blanca (Xarel-lo)
Catalonia, Spain
Alta Alella is the closest winery to Barcelona (10 km). The estate is just two km away from the Mediterranean Sea and the vineyards are planted on slopes and terraces between 100 and 250 meters above the sea level.
Tallarol is a 'natural wine' produced by Alta Alella with Pansa Blanca, the local strain of Xarello from organic vineyards. It fermented with natural yeasts in amphorae produced with the same soils -sauló- found in the vineyards and bottled without the addition of sulfur. The nose talks about the process more than the grape or place, as is often the case with this kind of wine, and the color is also the predictably cloudy yellow. The nose is a mixture of earthy, dusty aromas with notes of baked apples and spices. The palate reveals a very fine and elegant wine, one of the best in its style, young, juicy and tasty, umami-driven, mineral, ending quite clean and almost salty.
