Breuckelen Distilling Company was founded by Brad Estabrooke in 2010 – one of the first to open in Brooklyn since Prohibition. The distillery is located in an industrial neighborhood a few hundred yards from the Gowanus Canal.
Brad sources the grains for his gin and whiskeys from Oechsner Farms in Newfield, New York, just south of Ithaca. Owner Thor Oechsner organically farms 950 acres planted to corn, wheat, oats, barley and rye. Brad produces handcrafted small-batch spirits in a 400 liter Ulrich Kothe hybrid copper-pot/column still and grinds, mills, ferments and distills his spirits in house.

Breukelen Glorious Gin Brooklyn, NY
$38 bottle
Distilled from organic New York state wheat, then redistilled individually with each of its five botanicals: juniper, lemon, ginger, grapefruit, and rosemary. Each batch is then blended by hand and taste-tested against earlier batches to ensure consistency. This careful production yields an exceptionally smooth gin, with citrus-forward aromas, bright juniper, and clean, herbal notes on the finish—in short, a gin that lends itself to mixing. Since it has subtle juniper aromas and an underlying wheaty flavor, try mixing it in cocktails that have Italian amaros or sweet vermouths instead of with tonic. Fresh fruit cocktails and even bloody mary mix work well with this gin, too.
