2012 Viñas del Cambrico Rufete, Tempranillo, Garnacha
Salamanca, Spain
A
delicous blend of Tempranillo, Rufete and Garnacha. Like a string trio,
each grape holds its own while letting the other two sing. Bodega
Cámbrico is situated at 2600-2950 feet in the Natural Park Sierra de
Francia, a breathtaking mountainous region, where the conditions are
ideal to obtain grapes of extraordinary quality. The vineyards are
granitic terraces that were formed during the Cambrian Age (about 500
million years ago) Old Vines, Low Yields all made from 40 to 100
year-old-vines. No herbicides, insecticides or chemical fertilizers are
used. The vineyards are ploughed by horse and the grapes are harvested
completely by hand. Rufete is a rare, unique varietal which is a
cousin to Pinot Noir. Many centuries ago, Burgundian settlers
transported the Noirene grape to Sierra de Francia. It adapted to the
mountains, high above the city of Salamanca, and became Rufete. The
variety of Tempranillo corresponds to a clone that has adapted to this
region throughout the centuries. |
| | 2011 Cvne Viña Real Crianza
Tempranillo Rioja, Spain
CVNE is one of the most important wine producers of Spain, on account of its illustrious history, and its omnipresence in the contemporary Spanish wine scene. Situated in Rioja in the traditional neighborhood of the station, where the oldest wineries of Rioja Alta established themselves. Founded by the Real de Asua brothers in 1879, it remains family-owned and family-run, with the latest generation committed more than ever to making great wine in meaningful quantities. 90 Points Vinous / Antonio Galloni - "Brilliant ruby-red. Fragrant red berry and candied rose scents, with hints of vanilla and cured tobacco in the background. Silky, sweet and open-knit on entry, but the sappy raspberry and cherry flavors tighten up in the mid-palate. Shows very good clarity and lift on the clinging finish, which is framed by supple, slow-building tannins."

| | 2014 Lagar de Costa AlbariñoGalicia, Spain
The
vineyards are near the sea, from 0 meters sea level up to 13 meters
(distance 400 meters). The vines are trained South-West-facing pergolas
on gentle slopes with granite and sandy soils. Lagar de Costa is a small
family winery with a vast experience with the albariño grape varietal. Stainless steel vat fermentation, aged 8 months in tank stirring of the fine lees. This
winery is located right near the sea in Rias Baixas Spain, and you get
all the nuances that go along with that environment. Saline, great
minerality yet lush and lovely mouth feel. We have not had an Albarino
quite like it! |
