The drums of war are beating. A war on the Korean Peninsula would be unthinkable: hundreds of thousands of lives would be lost. A nuclear war, however unthinkable, is possible and would be devastating to the entire planet.
The National Council of Churches is working for peace.
Last year, a delegation from the National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK) came to Washington, DC, to advocate for a permanent peace treaty. Later, NCCK leaders came to speak with members of the US Senate against the placement of destabilizing US military hardware in South Korea.
NCC President and General Secretary Jim Winkler visited Seoul to build a framework for a permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula and avoid war with the United States. This summer, thousands signed an open letter to President Trump asking him to back off of his threats against President Kim Jong Un.
Peacemaking is needed today more than ever. The National Council of Churches is working with partners in the US and across the globe to build peace and avoid catastrophe.
