Magical ideas for International Walk to School Month
Pupils at Eastlea Primary School in Cramlington have come up with creative ways to encourage families to be more active during International Walk to School Month. Young "wizards" are handing out reward stickers to those who walk, cycle, or scoot to school as part of a series of fun events organized by the school council's Brainwaves team. Disposal of lithium-ion batteries
We’re warning residents about the fire hazards of lithium-ion batteries, commonly found in household items like vapes, phones, and laptops. These batteries can overheat, catch fire, or explode if damaged, improperly charged, or disposed of incorrectly. Residents are being urged to handle these batteries carefully and dispose of them properly.
A blooming marvellous result for Northumberland

Holywell won Silver Gilt for Large Villages, and Cramlington received awards for Best Conservation and Best Park.

Low Prudhoe flooding scheme solution moves closer
A scheme to address flooding near Prudhoe Railway Station is set to get underway in the coming months. The complex project involves upgrading the drainage system, securing agreements for work on private land, and obtaining Network Rail's approval. The Council plans to bypass a collapsed culvert by installing a large pipe through the station car park. Road and footpath improvements will also be made during the works.

Invite to community venues to host a free electrical vehicle chargepoint
Community venues in the North of England are invited to host a free Vehicle to Grid (V2G) electric vehicle chargepoint through the 'Rural Energy Resilience' project, part of the V2X Innovation Programme. This will allow venues to power their facilities during power cuts using EVs. If interested, contact Charge My Street at hello@chargemystreet.co.uk. EV drivers, particularly those in rural areas, are also invited to join a trial exploring energy management technologies aimed at reducing bills, boosting energy resilience for community buildings, and improving rural mobility. Complete the survey and they will get in touch.
Are you ready for flooding this winter?
The Environment Agency are keen to promote flood readiness as we approach winter. Check for flooding in the next 5 days, sign up for flood warnings (by phone, text or email), or check your long term flood risk from rivers, the sea, surface water, reservoirs and groundwater.
