Subject: Climate Change Northumberland: July update 🌳

Introducing our new Climate Change Action Plan 2024-26
We are thrilled to announce the publication of our new Climate Change Action Plan 2024-26, which, as well as focusing on reducing emissions from heating, energy, and transport, also explores further greenhouse gas reduction, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation.

Building on the success achieved throughout 2021 to 2023, this plan includes new initiatives exploring how we will also reduce methane and nitrous oxide emissions, both of which are major contributors to the county's greenhouse gas footprint.

The plan is part of an integrated approach to maintain and enhance the natural environment and sits alongside our Environmental Policy Statement. It explores how we can adapt to the effects of climate change such as flooding, coastal erosion, wildfires, energy security threats, infectious diseases, and extreme weather events.

Awards celebrate the best of the county's green volunteers
The Duchess of Northumberland helped celebrate the very best in community and voluntary environmental work across the county at this year’s LOVE Northumberland awards ceremony. Community groups, organisations, schools and individuals were honoured awards across seven categories in what is now the event’s 14th year. From residents combining jogging and litter picking (known as plogging), to schools transforming the way pupils think about greener travel – award winners spanned the length and breadth of the county.

Affordable fares for Northumberland Line announced
