CINEMA LANGUAGE:
The Art of Storytelling
A 24 Hour Class Taught Over 7 Days
Beginning July 11th
If you're ready to really settle in and learn the craft of filmmaking, and you've just been waiting for the right time and the right opportunity to do it, then this is the class and the time is NOW!

Writer, Director, Editor Tom Provost has transitioned his popular live class Cinema Language to Zoom, so now anyone anywhere can learn these valuable lessons. This is an astonishing collection of courses--5 classes in 1--that will teach you the secret art of storytelling used by the most skillful filmmakers for decades. It's an incredible 24 hours of training, taught by a gifted instructor, in an intimate setting--your home. Here's what you'll learn:

MASTERING VISUAL STORYTELLING
An in-depth, entertaining intensive that explores how our best filmmakers expertly use the grammar of cinema to create the most effective and moving stories. With over 100 clips and stills, this class will illustrate and illuminate how to use the grammar of film to the best effect possible.

INTRODUCING YOUR CHARACTER
An extensive and entertaining look at how filmmakers effectively reveal characters to the audience, whether in a straightforward or purposely misleading fashion. Clips from over ten hit movies such as The Dark Knight and Erin Brockovich are used to explore the numerous ways you can provide fast, compelling and incisive information to your audience.

DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION
Every single choice you make reveals information to the audience. How to do it, when to do it, why to do it, as well as what the effect will be on your audience--all are determined by the manner in which you disclose each and every piece of information in a script.

FROM SCRIPT TO SCREEN
Tom takes you through the journey from script to final edited product of his feature The Presence, which starred Oscar Winner Mira Sorvino, in this candid and revealing insider's look at just how a movie comes to fruition. Attendees will be able to read the first 30 pages of the script and then watch The Presence before this session.

REWRITING DO'S & DON'TS
Collating his experience from years of script doctoring and consulting, Provost will take you through his steps to rewriting and honing your screenplay.

The class begins on Saturday, July 11th and will be taught over 7 consecutive Saturday afternoons, from Noon to 3:30pm PDT (3pm - 6:30pm EDT). Attendees will be able to interact with Tom throughout the sessions, asking whatever questions they have. And if you miss a session, a recording will be made available to you to watch on demand.

You will not find a more comprehensive online class for a better value anywhere, I can promise you that. If you regret not going to film school (or have forgotten what you learned), this is film school at home, for a tiny fraction of the price.

Don't Miss Episode 2 of My New Zoom Interview Show!
With Filmmaker Laura Somers, Discussing Rich Kids
June 25th • 5pm PDT (8pm EDT)

I'm thrilled to have writer/director Laura Somers on my next episode of No Budget Confidential. We'll get to talk about her no-budget wonder Rich Kids. Did someone tell you that Netflix no longer licenses no-budget indies with no-name actors? Yeah, I thought that too. But earlier this year they licensed Rich Kids, a $60k feature shot in Houston, TX starring a number of talented, but unknown, young local actors. We'll take you through the entire journey of how this underdog film was made and distributed. And if you're one of those people who has spent the last decade or two wondering when or if you'll ever make your own movie, Laura lived that life too. Until she didn't, and made it happen for herself. It's an inspiring story, trust me.

These shows are live, free and fun. We'll share clips and stills from the film and you'll get the chance to ask any questions you can think of. No holds barred. No secrets. No Budget Confidential. (Just keep it on the down low...)

Still Some Room Left for Episode 1!
Jeff Nimoy Discusses Fame-Ish

Don't forget the the first episode of No Budget Confidential is this Thursday at 5pm PT. Jeff Nimoy and I will talk about the film that was inspired by an exercise in my "Art & Science of No-Budget Filmmaking" class. It's a great story of someone building their project around their own unique set of resources, and then not taking no for an answer--and not letting the lack of money get in the way of making a feature. Like Laura, Jeff was another filmmaker who'd been in the industry for a long time, but had never followed their dream of making their own movie. And like Laura, he went out and did it.

Spend your Thursday afternoons with me and some chatty no-budget filmmakers. I'll see you at 5pm!
