THE NO-BUDGET SECRETS OF "DRIVERX" REVEALED! Dear Filmmakers,
I hope you'll join me this Wednesday night in Santa Monica for my special No Budget Film School Screening of DriverX! Immediately following the screening of the film, Indie Film Guru Peter Broderick will lead a discussion focusing on the micro-budget filmmaking aspects of DriverX, and Peter will be joined by writer/director Henry Barrial, lead actor Patrick Fabian (Better Call Saul), and myself.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn the latest techniques for self-financing and producing a micro-budget feature. And if you know me, you know we'll also be giving away fun prizes!
No Budget Film School Screening of DriverX Wednesday, Dec. 5th • 7:10pm Laemmle Monica Film Center 1332 2nd Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401
IFC Films/Sundance Selects presents DriverX, now playing in select theaters and everywhere On Demand. DriverX is about a middle-aged stay-at-home dad who has to start driving for an Uber-like Rideshare company to help support his working wife and two young daughters. It was written and directed by my regular collaborator Henry Barrial and stars Patrick Fabian from AMC's Better Call Saul. It also features a number of other familiar faces, including Tanya Clarke (Banshee), Desmin Borges (You're The Worst), Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Oscar Nunez (The Office) and many others.

| | And we're just now starting to get reviews. Here's what some of the critics are saying:
“A terrific new feature film...a perceptive and surprisingly sharp comedy/drama."
- Diamonds In The Rough
"Funny and compelling...this is true independent filmmaking at its best.” - KSDK St. Louis (NBC)
"Teems with details that feel lived-through. Its outlook--optimistic about human nature yet cynical about the times--lingers."
- The New York Times
“The acting throughout is excellent; it helps that Barrial isn’t playing Leonard’s predicament for cheap laughs or amped-up drama." - The Los Angeles Times
"Patrick Fabian...is emphatically up to the task. His fantastic performance elevates an already excellent script." - Nerdvana
"A must-see. Sometimes films just speak to you. If you’re a GenX-er like me then maybe the movie will speak to you too. There is so much truth in it." - Mother of Movies
"DriverX is a must-watch. There’s simply so much good stuff that’ll leave you thinking for days afterwards.”- Fansided

| I've written two articles about the film that I'm very proud of (with a few more on the way). First, I take a deep dive into my no-budget filmmaking process with this No Film School Article on how we shot the film. While I go into detail on the innovative and unique way we shot the nighttime car scenes, I also cover other aspects of the production.
I also wrote an article for IndieWire describing the long road that lead to DriverX. I call it From Sundance to Sundance Selects (IndieWire called it something different). If you struggle with the day-to-day of being an independent filmmaker, you are not alone. Learn why Perseverance is probably the most important quality a filmmaker can possess.
I can also be heard on several recent podcasts, including: |
| | I'm hoping to see many of you Wednesday night. I love meeting you guys and I'm happy to answer any questions you have about how we made the film.
