Thank You For Joining Us for
Monday's No Budget Film Club!

It was great fun having you with us on Monday to dig deep into my no-budget feature The Last Days of Capitalism. Guest speaker Adam Mervis shared several insights into how he started his professional screenwriting career, and then we ran through how we made the film. I mentioned early on that this session was going to be more like a class than a typical No Budget Film Club event, and I hope you all found that useful, (you can let me know below in the Survey!).

We did, however, enjoy another round of our fabulous Trivia Contest, and congrats to our two incredibly sharp winners--Renata and Jason. These were not easy questions this time! Renata wins the amazing, spectacular Bestie Blow Dryer Holder!!! (the perfect gift this holiday season!).

If you missed some or all of the event, don't fret--here's the recording of the session:

The Last Days of Capitalism
Now Available On Demand

As you know, our film was released on VOD November 12th by Indie Rights and is now available to rent or buy on Amazon and Google Play. If you know anyone who would enjoy the movie, please help spread the word. Perhaps you're friends with other no-budget filmmakers, writers or actors, fans of the theatre, couples looking for a Date Night movie, or lonely men planning a trip to Las Vegas. Your Feedback Needed

I want to make future No Budget Film Club events as good as they can be, and you can help. Please fill out this brief, anonymous survey and give me your thoughts about the evening. It will only take a couple of minutes, and will help make the next event you attend even better. And as I mentioned, I really want to know if you got value out of this presentation in particular.

Thank you!!!

Important Links

We were running out of time and I didn't get a chance to tell you how important it is to try to "control the narrative" of your film. You can do this easily in places like your Facebook page or website, but it's harder to do on public rating sites like IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, and the platforms your films play on. And sometimes you suffer the dreaded Internet Trolls. That's what happened to us. People who thought our film was against capitalism attacked it on YouTube and IMDB, giving us a ton of "1" votes, and dropping our "9" rating down to a "4.3".

Think I'm joking? Check this out...
(Actual IMDB review that was fortunately pulled a few days after it posted)

As filmmakers, you have to try to combat this kind of shit, even though it can be hard, especially with IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. One way to do this is to try to get people who might like your film to see it and then implore them to rate it.

So, I'd like to ask for your support. With your help, we can defeat the Trolls!

RATE LAST DAYS ON IMDB: When you watch the film on Amazon, you'll see the Amazon star rating for the film, and next to that you'll see the IMDB rating for the film (Amazon owns IMDB). So that score is really important for us. While we were playing festivals that score was very high (over 9), but once the film was released, we got attacked by out-of-the-country trolls who didn't even watch the film (it wasn't available outside the country) and our rating has sunk. Having everyone on this email rate the film on IMDB will certainly help us get it back up. Rating the film takes like 2 seconds--here's the link to our IMDB page: Last Days IMDB

RATE LAST DAYS ON ROTTEN TOMATOES:  We're still 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with our critics score--15 out of 15 positive reviews. We'd love to get the all-important audience score up higher, too. Please visit our page and rate it. This will take you 3 seconds tops: Last Days Rotten Tomatoes

Bunker 15: - I mentioned we hired a company called Bunker 15 to help us get positive reviews from Rotten Tomatoes accredited reviewers. It's nearly impossible to get these kinds of reviews without a big release and/or paying a publicist a lot of money, and often, a publicist can't get you the accredited reviews. I heard about Bunker 15 from a few friends who used them and I can't recommend them enough. 15 for 15 positive reviews speaks for itself!

National Champions:  As I mentioned, Adam's new movie, which he wrote and EP'd, is opening this weekend in theaters everywhere. I wanted to show the trailer, but ran out of time. Check out the trailer and then go see the film--there won't be a lot of college football on TV this weekend anyway!
