| | | Thank You For Joining Us for Monday's No Budget Film Club!
It was great fun having you with us on Monday to celebrate the no-budget comedy Engaged in Vegas. Abe and his team were not only generous with their time and insights, but also with their props! They donated two t-shirts worn in the movie to the fantabulous Trivia Contest, (Abe claims they've been washed!). Congrats to our three winners--Leandro, Randy and Sam--for being quick on the draw. That last question was particularly difficult.
If you missed some or all of the event, don't fret--here's the recording of the session: |

Engaged in Vegas Now Available On Demand
As you know, Abe's film was picked up for distribution by Random Media and was released in May. Please support these filmmakers and help spread the word. If you know anyone who enjoys no-budget films, improvised comedies, or who is planning on getting married to the wrong person, please let them know about Engaged in Vegas. It's currently playing on most platforms.
Your Feedback Needed I want to make future No Budget Film Club events as good as they can be, and you can help. Please fill out this brief, anonymous survey and give me your thoughts about the evening. It will only take a couple of minutes, and will help make the next event you attend even better.
Now, I know you guys barely ever do this, and I get it, I often skip the surveys myself. But I'm telling you, your thoughts can really help me. Don't you want these events to be as good as they can be?? Maybe you've got a great idea for improving them, or you can recommend a movie for a future event. I swear this will be quick, and so appreciated!

Other Links
I mentioned near the beginning of the event that I'd written about other no-budget films that were in the same vein as Engaged in Vegas--fictional films set in a non-fiction environment. If you're interested in learning more about those films...
Conventioneers (2005): This $20,000 feature won the Cassavetes Award (Best Film Made for Under $500,000) at the 2006 Spirit Awards (and beating out Brick in the process), and it's a great one. I wrote about it way back when on my (now old and decrepit) website, and you can read that story here.
Red Flag (2012): Alex Karpovsky's $10,000 feature was shot while he was out touring a previous feature. The hotels and the rental car were paid for by the people sponsoring the tour, so he decided to make a fictional movie about a director named Alex who tours his film around the country. Hilarity ensues. You can read about it here (on the above-mentioned ancient website).
Fame-ish (2020): - Writer/director/producer/actor Jeff Nimoy got the idea for this ComConRomCom when he was taking my "Art & Science of No-Budget Filmmaking" class. He thought about what resources he had to make a movie with and came up with his ability to be invited all-expenses-paid to comic book conventions. His $6,000 feature is set at Geek-Con in Madison, WI, and the story behind the making of this film is filled with valuable lessons. I wrote about it here, and Jeff joined me for my first No Budget Confidential last year to talk about it. You can view that here: https://vimeo.com/430883222 PW: Digimon
