Subject: New Video: Northern Flicker Calls Explained

Hey!

I just published a new video that highlights the calls and sounds of one of the most common “must-know” birds in north america: The Northern Flicker.

Click here to check it out!

Northern flickers are always one of the first birds I recommend to people who are just starting out with birds, or wanting to deepen their skills of interpretation.

Their calls are easy to learn, and can tell us some pretty amazing things about the forest.

In this video:

  • How to identify the courtship call of northern flickers.

  • The “Kleer” call: One of the most important sounds in bird language.

  • A video example of northern flicker alarm calls directed towards an owl.

  • How to distinguish northern flicker sounds from their most commonly confused relative woodpecker.

  • Flight calls, drumming, and more facts to know about flickers.

If you don’t know Northern Flickers yet, this is one of the best birds to start learning by sight and sound.

And if you do know Flickers, I bet you don’t yet realize just how many messages their calls are telling you about your local forest.
